Will Vista support 4gig of RAM?

  1. I am getting closer to building my rig. The only part that is still nagging me is the amount of RAM. As of now the system will be run by XP Pro, but I know that sooner or later I will be forced to migrate to Vista. I want to put 4 gigs of RAM now. Will vista support it within the next year????

  2. Go with the 64 bit xp pro...support for up to 16 gigs of memory!

  3. Sound tempting but will my software run on it??????

E signal, IB, Ninja Trader, MS Word ect?

  4. Yes. Vista will support 4GB of RAM, as will Windows XP.

But, I think by default Windows takes 2GB of RAM and allocates it to the operating system. That leaves you with 2GB of the 4GB for your applications.

There is a solution to this though. I think you can force Windows to allocate 3GB to applications and only 1GB to Windows. See more here:

  5. Looks doable. Thanx!
