Why Does E=mc2?: (And Why Should We Care?) (Hardcover) Brian Cox (Author) Jeff Forshaw (Author) http://www.amazon.com/Why-Does-mc2-...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267754713&sr=8-1 Imo this book should win science book of the year. It is amazing how much this book covers, and yet you look at it from the side, from the top, you count the pages, and you wonder how they can cram so much in such beautiful language in 242 pages! Strongly strongly recommended.
I haven't felt jealousy for someone in a long time (more like admiration), but I admit I wish I had written this book The Edge of Physics: A Journey to Earth's Extremes to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe (Hardcover) Anil Ananthaswamy (Author) http://www.amazon.com/Edge-Physics-...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267754997&sr=1-1 The idea of this books brings together some dreams of mine. One dream is that the author got to travel to some of the most remote places on Earth, and mixed that with interviewing and writing about some of the coolest subjects at the frontier of knowledge. The other dream is, most people want to take vacations where there is "lots to do". I want to take a vacation where there is absolutely nothing to do, where it is so quiet all you hear is the sound of the Earth or even the Universe itself. Where you can introvert and not worry about anything but your own thoughts and what you are writing (working) about. Where there may be no company for hundreds of miles - only another few souls to share hot soup with and talk discuss their research with you. The final dream I won't tell you about because you should read the book and hear about all the special places, some of them breathtaking, that science is being done, the machines they are using to uncover the deepest secrets of nature, and why.
I want to take a vacation where there is absolutely nothing to do, ------------------------------ I hear ya, "being rather than doing". Most people look like I have two heads when I pursue this or mention it. You're outta my league from the posts I read of yours but just the same... in my world. So much of what we do zaps the energy out of us rather than us absorbing the energy.
Nitro, you read so many books. You love that, you can be professional book reviewer with all your passion.
That was my dream too. I fufilled it when I got a boat. I don't know where you live. A body of water is a prerequisite ...obviously. I used to go out miles from shore where only the skyscrapers could be seen and my friend, who is a civic minded cosmopolitan sort used to look at the city and I'd be looking out in the other direction at the void. When its hot and the water is calm take your boat out for as many miles as you want and that dream gets fufilled ...esp. nice is shutting the motor off and just jumping off the back 15 miles offshore.
