Can't say I like it all, AMEX trading OTC... Part of it's just getting used to something that looks different and may act differently, and I can't say that my results have so far been any different than they would have been otherwise, but, if I wanted to trade a specialist-controlled system, I'd trade NYSE.
a couple related points.... Interestingly, there is nothing inherent about a given stock that makes it a Nasdaq or NYSE listed stock. The listing venue is often a choice made by a CEO or CFO or a company, which is usually/often driven by the Investment Banker for the firm at the time the company goes public. NYSE, AMEX and Nasdaq all have tech stocks, and other types as well. And the world that was Nasdaq when many of the Nasdaq companies listed there is no longer the same world... at all. Point is: prior to this, you did not have a choice to trade a Nasdaq stock on a trading floor. Now you do. Traders can still trade on whatever system they want to. If the Amex has the best price and the most size, go there. If not, you can go wherever you want. From what I've seen, the Amex takes down, on average, much bigger prints then the typical Nasdaq dealer. Also, with the consolidation in the specialist business, the Amex firms are now pretty much all the same as the NYSE firms. The differences there in terms of market participants is much blurrier then it once was.
Then why has the NYSE historically provided decent fills while the AMEX, specifically the ETF's, can't seem or probably don't want to get their act together?
ETF's because they can. I have found that the amex is a far more fair place to do business. But that's just me. In the end, there are fair and unfair specialists. I don't think it's limited to the exchange.
What is this and how much is the charge to ADF? Also what brokers trade with ADF? Does ADF stand alternative display facility? Where else can we trade with ADF? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Hans

I hear the OTC traders in my firm complaining alot about the specialist on the AMEX. But now they know how us listed traders feel when getting screwed by the NYSE specialist. But I've also heard that some of these specialists aren't that good and tend to present a crossed market opportunities for now. So take advantage of it while they haven't become as good as the NYSE specialists.
