Vanzandt brought up money, not me. My point was the negative impact unions have on a company's ability to adapt to change.

Yes (take your word for it, don't see him) and you responded in kind.

Except you are still ignoring reality, Boeing and the unions together reacted to change building the best jets .... for decades. The only thing that really changed was the out-sourcing - to eff the unions basically.

Look at Airbus - are they not unionized as well? I'll answer that - yes just about 100%.

Find something else to bitch about besides this and your underwater TSLA position.

And the reason that unions exist is that management was mistreating workers. If workers had been given a fair share of the profits to begin with, there would be no reason for unions.

Dumb thread. Dead money. WTF is wildchild?

Deadlocked on contract until early Sep. You can short AUG vols here. Best to buy the AUG30/SEP20 calendar structures. No point in being in the shares.

Again, talking about different things here. I'm all for protecting workers' rights, but I think it's a government's responsibility to spell out and enforce those, not an extra governmental mafia in cahoots with a political party. Businesses ought to be able to run their activities within general or detailed employment rules applicable equally to all businesses. Unions are a mafia planted in to extract more concessions from an employer, making it not only costly to manage but, most important, they significantly hinder an employer's flexibility to adapt to changes in the economy, for example. Just look at how difficult it is for behemoth Ford and GM to get out of their pickup truck and SUV comfort zone. In some ways, Tesla's success is their failure.
I may facepalm every time I come across how much some (certainly not all) union labor makes, but it's their job to extract as much as they can from the employer and at that they can be highly successful. But let's not fool ourselves; the cost always trickles down to the consumer who may or not have the choice to afford the extra union cost.

    Case in point:
    https://www.thecooldown.com/green-tech/chinese-electric-car-byd-seagull-us/

Chinese automaker unveils low-priced EV, posing threat to US auto industry: 'They will … demolish most other car companies'
"Any car company that's not paying attention to them as a competitor is going to be lost when they hit their market."

    by Zac KostyrkaAugust 11, 2024

electric car has American automakers and politicians shaking in their boots. Launched in 2023 by Chinese automaker BYD, the Seagull sells for around $12,000 in China, with a shorter-range version costing under $10,000, as detailed by the Associated Press.

The car's quality rivals that of EVs made in the United States that cost three times the price. Tariffs on imported Chinese vehicles may have kept the Seagull out of the U.S. market for now, but its low cost has the potential to disrupt the global auto industry.

The AP reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk told industry analysts that Chinese EVs are so good that without trade barriers, "they will pretty much demolish most other car companies in the world."

The Biden administration has announced that 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs will be enacted this year, citing concerns over U.S. jobs and national security.

"BYD's entry into the U.S. market isn't an if. It's a when," said Sam Fiorani, a vice president at AutoForecast Solutions, per PBS.

The Seagull, weighing about 900 pounds less than Chevrolet's Bolt, can reportedly travel 252 miles on a single charge, per the AP. BYD's in-house manufacturing of batteries and other components makes the car much cheaper to build — and the company sold over 3 million vehicles worldwide last year, per the news outlet.
