OK, I got it to boot in safe mode, so I THINK that is probably a good sign. But now what? I've got the boot log I made but don't know how to interpret it.

You've all been helpful, so I hesitate to ask...any further suggestions?

  8. did you do this?

change the boot sequence in setup and make sure the cd boots first. then put system restore cd in. then reboot the computer. that should allow the cd to boot.

OK, did that. Got it to boot and am now trying to use the recovery console. It wants an effing administrator password. Huh? What the heck is the password?

    groan...
