Why would any farmer with hard, dirty jobs ever go back to farming when they get farming subsidies?

Do farmers get paid for not growing crops?

The U.S. farm program pays subsidies to farmers not to grow crops in environmentally sensitive areas and makes payments to farmers based on what they have grown historically, even though they may no longer grow that crop.

Happens in the UK aswell, total madness, don't work and make stuff to sell, just have a hand out, makes zero sense to me, it's like they want the country to go bankrupt.

Unfortunately you're way too subtle for the intellect of the folks you're aiming this at. I have no doubt it flew well over their heads while they argue about the evils of minimum wage people stealing our hard earned tax dollars and SOCIALISM! over on the thread you're parodying.

What one do you prefer ?

Do some useful work to pass your time meaningfully

    or

    Do nothing.
    Just eat and sleep.
Everyday stare at the clock second-hand spinning
    tortureously

    Every day thinking about :
No dream, no aspiration, no motivation, no hope,
no joy, no peace, no life

Every day keep on thinking about
    funeral arrangement for self.

Thank goodness we don't live in such a binary, black and white world where one either works a job or sits around waiting to die! One can get a whole lot of fulfillment raising kids, creating art, learning new skills or new fields, serving those who need help...all things that would both bring me a lot more satisfaction and potentially create far more value in the world than, say, flipping burgers for minimum wage.

  9. oil companies too ($20 B/ year)
chicken processing companies like Tyson's Food, Pilgrim's Pride and Riceland Foods receive billion of dollars in farm subsidies. sometimes, I think the Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Agriculture are agents of these big corporations. They don't really work for the interests of tax payers.
