""So no matter where you meet a stranger. Be careful if they are too friendly, if they try to win win your confidence too quickly, and if they become overly personal.""

from 'Boys Beware', Sid Davis film

anytime i heard someone excessivly discuss honesty or integrity, or religion in a deal, it's a major red flag

well...when you thik about it, it makes perfect sense

it's basicly observing when someone is working too hard to gain your confidence, seems to need your confidence too much and too quickly

'con' in 'con man' is an abbreviation for confidence

police always use terms like con, con man, con scheme, con you out of.. etc - the term 'con' or confidence is *always* used for a crook

    for a reason

because it always starts with your confidence

This is SO true; I have thought this for years -- sometimes thinking there was something wrong w/ me for judging so quickly.

People like this are currently part of my working environment and causing me immense strain.

It depends who is using these words, when I used to drive a cab years ago, a term 'buddy' was widely used, of course there were some dodgy characters between us, but there were others who would refer to one another as 'buddy'. I suppose when one meets a person and immediately is called buddy could raise a question - why is he calling me a buddy if we've just met 1 hour ago & hardly know each other? When I came to the UK in early 1990s quite a few 'buddies' of mine have helped me out and not asked for any security. Now a person that would not use a word buddy will constantly be analyzing the risk factor before lending a hand & most of the time will refuse due to certain lack of trust or guarantees. I could say that, but that would be generalising, just as in RM's case. All depends on situation & people involved.

BTW Thorn has addressed somebody as "my friend" recently & RM you think highly of him, so would you think any different of him now that he addressed somebody in that manner?

  9. BTW, I found it pretty cool how the movie Syriana revealed a major plot twist ahead of time with the 'bullshitter key word'.

The Mussawi/Jimmy character called Clooney 'buddy' at their initial meeting- revealing exactly what type of guy he was, and foreshadowing his imminent betrayal.
