I support universal and uniform background checks 100%. But that was not what you were saying before - you were talking about bans. I also support 21 purchase age (actually, I want it to be 23 or 25). As for the banning of mags and bump stocks, go right ahead. Won't make any impact whatsoever. People who have them will keep them. People who want them will "acquire them" or 3D Print them. You'll stop nothing.
You're being intentionally obtuse. Cruz was on everyone's radar list. The man even told people he would be a professional school shooter. He actually stated it. This was as clear cut as it could have gotten. You just don't want to admit it. Fortunately, people with common sense and no narrative to push see it.
Exactly! The Cruz shooting is a case study in the failure of government bureaucracy at every level. The only thing more staggering than their incompetence is their indifference. Taking none of the blame when in fact they deserve all of the blame. Every single dead kid falls squarely in the laps of the feds, the local police, and numerous other agencies. Adding another layer or two for these nitwits to ignore will be of no help.
The Revolution began when the Redcoats went out to Concord, Mass to try to take arms away from the locals and the weapons cache by the local militia. Most of the weapons had already been relocated and the locals had hidden theirs before the Brits arrived so the Redcoats searched for a few hours and then headed back toward Boston. But the locals were pissed that they had even come to try and followed the British troops back taking pot shots at them from the woods and generally harassing them for trying to disarm the local citizenry and their local militia. Problem is when they reached Lexington they encountered British reinforcements coming out to try to protect their retreating soldiers. The rest is history. As we know, the Battles at Concord/Lexington and the American Revolution were started by the NRA and if the colonists just thought and acted like Canadians everything would have been okay. Or at least I am pretty sure that's what it says in history books in school these days.
There has never been any question that there was a failure to act on the information available in the Cruz case. We should be addressing that of course. There is a far broader problem, however, that the Parkland kids have brought attention to. They have proposed actions that will reduce the probability of these mass shootings. That where we should focus. Thank you for supporting universal, uniform, background checks! You are by no means the most unreasonable participant here. Let me be very clear. I am strongly in favor of banning the sale of assault style firearms as a first step. This will stop the increase in the prevalence of these types of firearms and hence prevent the probability of their use in the future from increasing. That's a sensible, and very conservative first step that no reasonable person should object to. The impact on the sporting use of firearms would be zero. Let me reiterate my primary point. We should not approach the issue of gun control by consideration of anecdotes of instances where mistakes were made. And we should rid ourselves of irrelevant arguments and slogans that appeal to emotion rather than logic and probability. Instead we should adopt practical laws aimed at reducing the probability of these adverse events. The Kids from Parkland are to be commended for taking the right approach, whereas the adults have allowed themselves to be become mired in anecdote and slogans promoted by the gun lobby. Underlying all is the unconscionable failure of our legislators to act ethically and logically in exchange for campaign contributions from the gun lobby. This is about to end thanks to the the kids from Parkland.
Most of the gun violence in this country is on the Dem Plantations. You might want to spend some time addressing the issue of why politicians there are unconcerned there and just accept it as a way of life. You are acting like a typical lib white honky, where you are suddenly become aware and concerned about gun violence when it happens in places where your folk might live. You have probably downloaded pictures of the Parkland kids and have them as a desktop screensaver in lockstep with the lefty media message that Parkland is a turning point because Lord knows that the fact that a few three year olds will be gunned down in Chicago this weekend. You have pictures of those kids and their mom and dad downloaded to your desktop? You should be advocating calling out the national guard or federal troops to provide safety and restore order in places like Chicago.
So-called "assault style weapons" are just the latest boogeyman for gun grabbing leftists. They're no more deadly than other semi-automatic weapons in the hands of a school shooter, and I've pointed out several times that the "military" features (other than selective fire which AR-15s do NOT have) are useless to civilian mass murderers. Not to mention that the VA Tech shooter used two semi-automatic handguns to kill 32. There are literally hundreds of millions of magazines out there and even if you could magic them all away, they're easily made with 3D printers. Not even close to a "fait accompli." Not even remotely sensible or supported by rational people (your liberal bubble doesn't count) because it fails to address the root causes of the violence; nor does it address the gargantuan law enforcement failures.
Yup. Demrat plantations with strict gun laws. But addressing real problems doesn't advance the shitlib agenda.
