Why the disparity between ES and YM volume?

It looks like about 20 times more ES contracts are traded than YM. Why is ES so much more popular? Contract prices are roughly the same and YM spreads are tighter -- about a point or $5/contract vs. a 1/4 point or $12.50/contract on ES. Is it just that ES is the original E-Mini and is linked to what most consider the more important index, the S&P 500?

  2. What provides better hedging, the S&P or the Dow? Hint, the one comprised of ALOT more companies would be my guess :)

eCOT computer goes down all the time.
    Why bother?

  4. the ym contract could even get better when they move over to the globex system, hopefully soon. then volume should grow with the switch . a big plus for ym traders.

  5. There'a a lot more money indexed to the S&P-500 than the Dow Jones. The S&P contract has been around a lot longer too.
