Why TA does not work

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by JMN459, Oct 9, 2012.

  1. I have found many things that work. The rub is, the edge never lasts. It is the nature of the market to adapt thus destroy edges. The edges I am talking about are real edges that a simple guy like myself can't replicate. Interexchange option arb is one example of a real edge that I didn't have the infrastructure to replicate on my own. There are countless others. None have to do with TA or charts.

Seems that you confuse "mechanical" with "real". Did Tiger Woods have an edge over his competitors? Certainly did. But was it replicable? Doubt it. Does it make his edge "not real"? Certainly not.

I also exploited mechanical edge myself with one binary option broker back in 2005/6. But wouldn't say it makes my current chart reading edge less real. :)

Yes, probably more correct term, forgive me my poor English. But the idea is quantifiable, objectively defined edge vs. art of pattern recognition aka tape reading aka chart reading.

Both are real IMO, just one is easy to quantify and replicate (given the infrastructure is at our disposal), but hard to find due to exactly that reason of it being easily defined and exploited.

Another is very hard to replicate, takes years of personal practice to master, but it's just as real as edge of any athlete is real over his/her competition.

  5. Yes, I understand your point. Perhaps, chart reading savants do exist-- however, I have seen no evidence in or out of the market. Not to mention, when asked to participate in a controlled environment , those that make the claims bring out the excuses.

Oh come oon, I posted 2 months of live trades, proven by 3rd party. How is that worse than 10 days of Combine? :)

you don't have to be a savant, its like a bird watcher, you just pay attention so long that you see repetition, some times you recognize what you are looking at, have been using market profile since 86,it worked better intraday back then , but the spx had a 3 point range, it still works ,just better when using multiple day data,so things change ,but are still the same, a 1960 chevy had no seat belts, now they do,still has a steering wheel, gas pedal and brakes, the basics stay the same,in TA

you spend too much time thinking about what you and others can't do, you should toss that word out of your vocabulary

  9. The bottom line is, if you guys and girl really are successful with charts, lines and angles that's great. I never begrudge success-- however, I can choose to believe that the whole truth isn't being told and request proof in a controlled environment. As my experience and all I have seen in the real world negates the claims. But Heck, anything is possible. I met my bride on elitetrader--- talk about an improbable occurrence! surf:D

You're right, whole truth is not told. It can hardly be told, only grasped after many hours of deliberate practice. :)
