Excellent Commentary All ............................................................................................ The real question here is ... Does the marketplace represent a true long term buyer seller marketplace where everyone that transacts has a long term goal in mind ? Is there really quite a cadre of people that position stock holdings for intraday profit only ? Or is the short term market really a cadre of leveraged pools that arb between the futures and the cash marketplace ? .................................................................................................... The fact that all stock is not in the hands of long term holders would make the case that there is certainly promise in intraday trading,,,,This means that sizable positions are transacted which actually makes the price change such that a knowledgeable and professional scalper can continually recognize opportunities for profit... Do many figure this out...of course not....do some figure it out...not many.... But those who do ....are very gainfully employed... And in fact if it were not for intraday players it could be argued that the marketplace would not exist as it does.... And with the advent of the ECNs...makes intraday trading feasible for those who are knowledgeable...
quote form libertad... "...a knowledgeable and professional scalper can continually recognize opportunities for profit... Do many figure this out...of course not....do some figure it out...not many.... But those who do ....are very gainfully employed" You got it my friend!
yoohoo, when did you get started with range bars?? I could not find more info for this type of charts. Can you point me in the right direction? Where can I find more info on it? Is it possible to use on stocks too? Which charting software do you use?? I started using it recently and it helped my trading. I am also a scalper but in the Asia time zone.
This is what yoohoo is using right?? Found it on one charting software but cannot find any info on it.
I managed to make something similar to range bars on DTN. I set the chart to point and figure with a 3 cent interval and a 1 cent reversal, then compress the chart a bid and presto you have something that´s pretty much a range bar.
I use Ensign. Range bars can be used on anything - so to answer if it can be used on stocks, charting software doesn't know if you are charting Fx, stocks or emins. I do use time charts as well, but most of what I do is on range bars. Point and figure is not the same as range. The ref to Vicente M. Nicolellis Jr. is correct as the inventor of range bars.
What if the best position trading approach makes a higher risk-adjusted return on capital than the best scalping approach? Or makes less in % terms but is more scalable to bigger size, and therefore makes more in absolute dollar terms? Those seem to be two things you are overlooking.
