Here’s an interesting plot twister; Republicans made the assumption, incorrectly as it turns out, that voters in states with high-unemployment would kick the bums out. That is, that they’d vote Obama out of office and try to find someone who could solve the jobs problem in this country.

Turns out, the opposite has happened. Voters in high-unemployment states actually like the president, and the reason is obvious; the Federal Government is paying the jobless, extending unemployment benefits, food stamps, and even underwriting disability payments from Social Security.

Think we’re different from the Europeans? Think again. The proportion of Greek men in their 30’s that are working is higher than the proportion of men who work in the United States. That’s what this election was all about. People voted for free stuff, free money, and free benefits. A chicken and health care in every pot.

It’s not just the people who lost money in the recession who are hooked on government money. The total number of people getting government money are rising. In fact, most of what you suspect about entitlements may be wrong. If you think the proportion of people getting government benefits has been stable over time, think again. In 1983, less than 30% of us got help. Today, it’s 49%.

Think transfers are a small part of the Federal Government’s budget? Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Until 1960, government transfers were less than a third of the budget. Today, it’s two-thirds of federal spending. That leaves just one out of every three dollars for things like defense spending.

So here’s where we are; nearly 200 years after Francis Scott Key penned the national anthem and immortalized the phrase, “Land of the Free.” We’ve become just that, but not in the way we quite expected.

We’re the land of the free because an increasing number of us are getting a free ride. That, my friends, is not the American way

  2. The republican party lost by a huge margin of electoral votes and they better get used to losing as long as they continue to denigrate the people who they need to get them back in power.

Moreover it happens all the time here on ET. Someone will post a thread on P&R and another individual will troll a childish and disgusting insult at the individual, rather than responding to the thread. This is allowed here on P&R for what reason, I've never been able to figure out. But it is abhorrent to allow this to happen.

A reply to the insult is also a big mistake which I have done but never again.

No political party should move in this direction and now that republicans are in the minority, this sort of response isn't going to garner any new voters to their cause.

Moreover, It might be wise to suggest to fox news to tone down this sort of rhetoric cause that tune isn't working any more.

Given the relatively close popular vote, this is yet more incontrovertible evidence the EC is outdated and a detriment to our nation.
And with government assistance going to the affirmative action parasite entitlement class who are breeding like rats. We will stay in the minority. It really is game over.

  4. The "people they need to get them back in power" are the 98% of blacks who only vote "for the black guy"

Blatant racism that is conveniently ignored by the media.

  5. The whities were also blatently racist, the majority of whities voted Republican.

We Hispanics voted for the best guy, Obama.

  6. You need to ask any street walker or abused woman who managed to find the strength and courage to get away and you'll have the answer. Obama has just enough these type people in his voting block to put him over the top.
Like the pimp and/or abusive husband he and his team have targeted the most insecure among us. Like the pimp he lured them him with a bright smile and lot's or promises. Then he beat the shit out of them for the past 4 years, failing to deliver time and again, always blaming something or somebody else for his what's gone wrong. They want to leave him, but are to frightened and insecure to do so. On ocassion he shows them some love and these insecure types say see, he really is a good guy at heart. He's just misunderstood. They go back once again.
Or maybe it's just Romney didn't have the balls to take on the pimp toe to toe. Probably a little of both, and that little is what determined the winner and the loser.

  7. RACISM: Sorry guys that tune won't work anymore. You're just beating a dead horse.

Supposedly from a newspaper in Prague......

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President.”

  9. SLANDER: You can't get votes like that.

  10. 61% of whites voted Romney.

    99% of blacks voted Obama.

I don't think you know the meaning of the words "blatantly racist"!
