Why is the US now going to bail out Greece?

  1. I figured that we would end up doing it when it first became a problem.

    Some things never change.

  2. Relax, people.

It's just paper and computer digits that are being pissed away.

It's not like anyone is using gold to bail someone else out.

    :D

  4. Why is the US now going to bail out Greece?

For the same reason we keep bailing everyone and everything else out. In the short term, not bailing out Greece could lead to a domino effect of sovereign debt default in numerous countries and global depression. Then all of the government leaders would get voted out of office and lose power. A few more hundred billion dollars may keep the ship floating long enough for all of the government leaders to make it through the next election cycle. They prefer to let a future generation of government leaders worry about the long-term problem of paying off the debt.

The head of the central bank said they "would consider a loan to Greece if approached" on Bloomberg terminal.

Just think of the political points it would score Russia to bail out a eurozone state and I'm sure there would be lots of side agreements like - oh could we have a Russain air base there seeing as you can't pay us back? lol

Besides it would be like borrowing off the mafia - polonium tea anyone? :p
