I may have been wrong in thinking I saw the real "obvious" the OP was mentioning. Every time I think I have it figured out, some new dimension unfolds and I see it in a different way. And who knows, the OP was pretty good at saying very little. But if anyone ever finds it, I'm sure they will keep quiet and not give any hints, they will just proceed to get rich!
In the book “Trading in the zone”, the author writes the new trader often has the correct mindset, i.e., seeing and doing the obvious. However, with more trading experience the trader loses the natural ability. I think if you finally achieve the state of trading in the zone you’ll regain that ability and get to the next level.
It is T2W, actually. There are some good threads on the subject: "How to trade: Full stop" and "If you want to fail as a trader, study TA" GO
The reason this thread is in the risk management forum is because no one will ever try doing the obvious unless they are sure of their defenses. It would be like stepping into a boxing ring with a pro fighter, which is basically what any winning short term trader will do if they consistently take money from hedge funds, investors, retail gamblers, or anyone else who is entering an order without really knowing why......
A Quote from Nysestocks: However, knowing what is required, and knowing how to do it correctly, are not one in the same (that is actually a hint if read correctly). If you understand the not one in the same ( ) part, you have found the obvious. GO
I've collected a few "contradictions (?)" from different posters over the years; here they are: it's visible in every chart vs. you don't need charts at all a simple principle vs. difficult to use and trade it correctly leapfrog in front of other traders vs. wait boxes vs. lines low risk (= small stop) vs. only use a mental stop when you think you should be buying, you really should be selling vs. always trade with the trend
Advanced level boxers have several styles they may use, as they read their opponent. When Conor McGregor fought Mayweather and lost, he had a very intelligent commentary at the end of the fight about this. Are you being read by your opponent when you enter an order in your console (assuming you trade real money)? This is more for the big indices rather than individual stocks which have fewer predators waiting for you.. One final bullet point for your list is "remember Mrs. Boyd"
