“Maybe, just maybe, one should be asking oneself, why did the price hit the line at that particular time, and why not at a previous time, or a future point in time?”

“Charts are used incorrectly by the majority of traders. You do not, and I will repeat again in case it does not sink in, You do not rely on charts alone for trade setups, as that is unprofessional and downright stupid.”

What is obvious now that I have time to think it over: I cannot predict the market. :banghead:

No-one can (especially in the short-term), although that is not obvious to everyone. :D

You can make decent money, over the long-term, just by following the major trends (bull & bear markets).

So, going forward, what is the major trend going to be?

If only I knew that. :D

When I said "following", I meant reacting (not trying to predict).

The reality is, though, that timing, even over the longer term, is not easy and it's hard to beat simple buy & hold.

OK, then how do you spot a "major trend"?

Hey to all and my deep sympathy to everyone who still reads this thread :)

First of all, I worked through almost the complete thread and want to give some guidance related to the structure of the thread - just to pay forward.

I can surely say, that I only scratched the surface. But later more to a conclusion of the thread in my (simple) view.

Anybody who is familiar to bible research knows, that the bible may consits of different sources. Some things contradict, some parts seem to be added later or are different, etc. No intent reasoning about religion - but about changing aspects:

There are different parts of this huge thread. And one can expect different findings and levels of understanding in each one of them:

    1. The prophet enters the arena aka NYSEstocks
This one guy made up the thread and seems to know about what he speaks. Little are able to follow or were able to show understanding. Some PMed him and he seemed to set up a private group with these guys to discuss things further.

What completly amazed was the ability to make people think. This is just great, because almost every bit of information is not given away clearly, but requires own brain power. If one is willing it can alter the perception of the market. I guess, that alone is worth some effort.

I was unable to get to any of the points maybe some were able to get. Passworded PDFs are still there - I couldnt open one of them, requiring to solve a riddle - but hey, why dont you try ;) In the end, I am sure it is just another breadcrumb on the way ...

I'd like to share one giveaway - and that is the other nyse thread in this forum. It is absolutley worth reading. Here again, I assume, that I only understood basic and plain aspects. But hey, take what you can - it is for free. I found it helpfull. You also can find that hint by reading the thread (i think it was redneck).

The redneck trader tried hart to follow and was able to follow through a lot of things. Yet I am unsure, as he stated also that he knows nothing, how fare he really went to understanding the complete range.

    The Zoo:
Already heard about birds, worms, whales, fish and thelike in trading? Not?? Well ...
I am a great fan of analogys. Everybody wants to find something familiar and its a way of doing it. But be warned it always comes in a riddlelike form. Huge advantage: makes you think and altering perception.
Some made more sense to me than others. To most I even have not the slightest clue. But it was an active converstion and posters more able then me left valuable guesses.

    The charts:
All gone with the tinypic-wind. That's sad, but what we got is what we got

It all ceased with post around 1050 (he before limited himself to about 1000 posts)
