Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Never really noticed before but the Obvious does not seem to be something regarding trading in itself but something that we need to be aware of before trading any market:
    aware of the obvious pre-requisite

  4. When I first stumbled across this thread I assumed the Obvious was something to do with the mechanics of trading. The OP said that, on their own, risk management and position sizing were of no use. Many of the early replies said "having an edge", which is how I would have answered, but the OP said that wasn't the answer he would give. The OP also asked what is the edge? Some replies mentioned having sufficient capital, which the OP said was obvious but not the Obvious.

If I took away capital, edge, risk management, position sizing it didn't leave a lot in terms of what I understood trading was all about.

The OP also said that "there are very few traders that really know how the markets operate". And I realised that I wasn't one of them! So I decided to do some thinking...

OS, exactly! It is a long and difficult journey but still a necessary one that requires a total shift of thinking.

Yes, swim with the flow and not against it, as if you do you'll end up in one of the many traps of the Generals...

You'll end up in that trap regardless. In fact, the "flow" can be a trap in itself.

  10. I am currently thinking about how to exploit the Obvious, and that's not so obvious.

What I do recognise, though, is it's no use whatsoever me trading ever again unless I can figure this out.

PS. I gained quite a lot of insight reading these hard-luck stories about trading
