Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Discussion in 'Risk Management' started by nysestocks, Jan 25, 2009.

  1. 1. How long would it take to know the Obvious?

    2. How would anyone know that he knows the Obvious?

    This is going to sound like a smart ass answer – but it isn’t meant to be

    1.) No one can say – we’re all different and learn at a different pace

    2.) Because it will be obvious

    ==========================================================

    Aside

    Couple day ago someone PM’d me and asked about the obvious – I told him I value my friends too much to throw them under the bus – hence I will not offer up a substantive response

    His response back to me included the following (I’m paraphrasing btw)

    Neither you or TO would tell someone the obvious even if they guessed it…

    To which I thought – Once it becomes obvious – there is no longer a need to ask

    ==============================================================

    Admittedly it is hard to grasp..., that is until you clear the clutter out of your head, and see it for what it is

    The best compliment I have ever received as a trader was from R1, when he stated – I had a simple mind and pure thoughts

    It takes work, but it is doable Sir…

    No need to respond – but I think Varma gave a very closed minded response

    I want to increase my ability – I work out, take lessons, practice, etc…. (granted I am limited by my physical attributes - an NBA/ NFL/ PGA professional I will never be.., nor a lot of other things for that matter)

    I want to increase my brain – I refrain from holding it back and let it wonder.., I feed it.., I work it out.. etc (but again an Einstein will I never make)

    That said – to trade – one really needs to simplify their mind (there is entirely too much BS, noise, whatever already)…

    We need to clear it out, block it out, and only focus on the important things (iow the specific things that will allow us to make money from the mkt… then keep it)

    Successful Journey Sir

    No matter what happens to you in the future, to me you will always remain the bullet proof Red Knight.

    Hey, this is not 'Good Bye' - this is 'Hello!' ... Look for the picture of the Fool on the Bull in the not so distant future... :) Cheers. Yours,

  6. Thank you, RN.

    You are the one who solves the puzzles and help us keep our head clear. I sometimes think TO and you are the same :)

    Thank you again, Sir.

    Low risk of course.

    Confirmation is that thing in your process derived from price charts that convinces you that a potential trade is in a low risk area and that timing is correct to start a trade.

    "well X10..will u really get "confirmation" or is that just wishful thinking?" The Oracle

    ----------

    I noticed this comment by TO. Is this suggesting that all TA is literally bogus? Trend, patterns, pullbacks, etc? I think we can all agree that indicators are B.S. but price structure on a chart? Because wishful thinking is death to the account and the above quote suggests confirmation is wishful thinking, then this might be true. I might be reading into it too much but I try to pick up on the clues TO drops.

  9. I think the obvious is that price has to go up or down. TO and RN constantly state they have no idea where price is going nor do they want to even attempt to guess. Why not buy and sell the open price and hold for a chunk of its ADR while getting out for small losers if you're wrong. Seems like your best R:R. Just the facts right?
