every stock will move differently..and..do not be surprised to see moves that are abnormal..or not the normal..for..that is exactly what an opportunity is the main benefit of daytrading is that u are there to capitalize on these abnormal moves..when they happen if u are expecting normal moves..then u might just hesitate..and we all know the age old saying... he who hesitates is lost
I've read through some decent portions of this thread, beginning, in-between, and recent posts. I've been trading for the past couple years... well I wouldn't call it trading...more like finding out what doesn't work. Over these two years, my mind has slowly but surely been changing. Moreso because of experiencing pain than knowing I had to change. Now I know that I must make deliberate conscious effort to train my mind to think correctly and act correctly then consistency will come. That last part is key for me, I never thought it was my way of thinking that was missing for successful trading. Always that it was my approach, money management etc. Although all of those things are necessary. The reason trading seems so hard is because most people will not change their way of thinking until they have experienced enough pain to be forced to change. If you think like the majority(crowd) you will not succeed. The 90% is the main source of profit for the 10%. Here's some things that have helped me: -Keep it simple -Trading is about finding opportunity and executing. Knowing what is opportunity and what is not, requires experience. -You don't have to know what is going to happen next in order to make money( Douglas) -Price and Time are key. Knowing WHERE(price) and WHEN(time) your idea will be wrong or right. Manage accordingly -Something doesn't work as expected, NEXT! Be patient with your winners and impatient with your losers. -DON'T do what everyone else is doing...you will be caught with the 90% and they are always wrong!
Speaking of YUM. I actually traded this when they released earnings this past Wednesday. Numbers were not bad, yet the stock was not acting as expected. I went short. Didn't produce the largest move, but risked 20 cents to make 40+. This is one of the things that have helped me. To look for the abnormal things...when a stock has relatively good news, but price action is bad. This means that this stock is weak, anybody buying or holding this stock will sell when they are forced out of their position! I don't know if this is meant by looking for the obvious or not so obvious, but it has helped me alot since I started looking for things like this.
J Ski/ Rossky Glad you enjoyed it Fwiw hereâs what I associate with the JZ song (and its just me sharing) On to the next one = place a trade, win/lose/ draw on to the next trade (and donât let what ever outcome happen before impede you) Double your money and make a stack = compounding is damn powerful (on every trade I place I have two things â a stop .., and a target (aka a plan) â and as long as price is agreeing with my plan â I pile a ton of wood on it) And please donât try this yet... easy to lose your ass and a whole lot more if not executed correctly⦠but one dayâ¦. I got a million way to get it = there are more ways to trade successfully than I ever could count â we each just need to find ours I move onward the only direction, canât be scared to fail â pretty self explanatory (imo we fail only when we stop trying) It all about progression â again pretty self explanatory (once you say you canât â you are correct) BTW and for the record 1.) TO and I have different ways of setting targets â neither is better of worse â just different 2.) The JZ song was given to me by another member â he really deserves the creditâ¦, but for the life of me I canât remember who it was ===================================================================================== Of course Edâs message it pretty clear⦠Hope both Yâall had an enjoyable Saturday RN
Thank You MN How about we set whatever aside and move on â please A cyber handshake as it were⦠============================================== As for you outgrowing this thread â congratulations (seriously) But donât be surprised ifâ¦. ============================================= Also when I say Sir â I really mean it⦠Sir⦠Iâm not much for beating around the bush â on anything Just a simple minded wysiwyg Good Trading to You Always - win, lose, or draw RN
When it's said, that there's no thing, that helps a bit, to see the ring, I guess I looked, into a spot, prowled around, and glimpse I caught, a strangest graph, that math find not, no fancy calc, or lines it caught, it shows the path, others know fast, (before us) before the line it move, the stock starts to the groove. Still need the skill, swallow the pill, in case the thing, no longer does ping.
Anxiety I've found a temporary fix for. Shake off other things, takes time. Some days it is real clear. Other days it is not, then it's pause time, and have the insight now, to avoid those. Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. Buddha I had not been reading enough of Buddha lately. His quotes are some of my favorite though.
The most frustrating time, for me, was when I knew what needed to be done, but I was still reverting back into my old ways of doing (trading) I would sit there thinking and asking my self â you are losing money, why are you not exiting⦠or Price is headed this way â why are you not entering or When in a winner â why are you exiting so quickly â the trade is still working ====================================================================== I cussed, I screamed, I cried, I slapped myself (literally), I recorded messages and kept listening to them over and over⦠damn that was a frustrating time for me Finally I gave in⦠then it clicked.. and I started acting (trading) the way I was thinkingâ¦. (and realize me giving in to anything before this â was unthinkable and unacceptable) Yeah â I know it now.. I was fighting my self ================================================================= I truly wish when you and Rossky reach that point â it passes quickly The knowing what to do.. but unable to do it.. Is a very dark⦠and a very lonely place ================================================================== Also donât be surprised once you get it and are trading correctly â some type of volatility will show up (the meat cutter.., or fast moving wide range bars) and you revert back to the old habits⦠I did also for a period â but it too passes (once you learn to forgive yourself) It is one thing to say you're bullet proof.. it is totally another to be it Humbly RN
I'm getting older and I think I have this damn ADHD, that some of the other guys that trade on here have. Thought it was only kids that got that. So short of sitting under a tree, or walking through snow for 30 days like Buddha did, to achieve his altered state, I had my doctor find something to at least manage it. Don't want to completely veg out, so it's got me stabilized somewhat. "The knowing what to do.. but unable to do it.. Is a very dark⦠and a very lonely place" It is dark, and then you think what you're doing and it gets darker, lonely, then the price moving, it's quite unlike anything else you're used to. It does take mind work, and right now I know it's important for me to redo the foundation. TO has helped so much, he really is a SENSEI for trading. I keep trying to show Ross how to break his mind down, I don't know if he's done it. He might be doing it now. I'm not going to rehash how I got the blammo, but sheesh, it was a doozy. Spun my brain good, it hasn't worked the same since
