why is prostitution illegal in the United States?

  1. There is no point legalizing hookers in the USA-- the hookers are complete dogs.

  2. Across the Detroit river in Canada...escorts can legally have sex with customers, they just cannot charge extra for it. Street walkers and brothels are banned. The escorts have to be licensed and must quote a fixed price for their time. If they choose to have sex during that time, then that is their business. Even with those stipulations there is probably not much difference between what goes on in Windsor, Canada and what goes on in Michigan as far as escort services. The girls probably make less money over there and still have to pay taxes.

Everyone knows that prostitution will continue to exist as long as men are chasing pussy. Everyone from clergy men to politicians to the cops themselves use those services from time to time and will continue to do so. The entire porn industry is a form of prostitution and its product is extremely widespread and accepted in the United States.

It will probably remain illegal in most of the United States, simply because no serious politican wants to take the political criticism from pushing to make it legal...and it is now so widespread and available that those who seek prostitutes can easily find them.

Also the fact that it is illegal probably deters at least a few women who might have considered doing it to decide against it. The public would probably want to avoid a situation where the girl next door gets behind on her bills, or wants to buy a new car and decides to do some temporary work as a prostitute so she can make $30k then go back to a more normal life. The fact that it is illegal means that the women who enter that life are probably much more committed to it and not just part-timers looking for a quick buck.

Since not every Lisa, Laura and Susan are doing it...the prostitutes themselves probably make more than they would with millions more girls "giving it a try".

Under the current system almost everyone is a winner. The prostitues get paid more, the politicians & preachers can claim to champion faily values...while still having access to the girls, parents of young women feel better that it is not being dangled before their daughters as a career choice and virtually anyone who wants to use one pretty much has access.

  3. No, its not 100% consensual. No woman starts off in prostitution clearly thinking. Most are using drugs, or drinking heavily or pushed into it by someone close the FIRST time they do it. No woman in her right mind wants to be a prostitute. After they have done it for sometime, they are numb to it so they just keep doing it for the money. These women are taken advantage of, which is why its illegal.

Drug use is also not consensual. Anyone who ever did drugs did not just go out one day and say "hey, I think im going to use heroin today for the first time." Most were pressured by friends to just "try it" Something they never would have done if not pressured.

Gambling takes advantage of people who are not smart enough to understand they are going to lose.

In other situations, taking advantage of someone, even if its consentual is illegal when someone is not in their right mind, or not smart enough to understand the contracts they get themselves into. Making prostitution and drug use legal, opens the doors to many more people getting taken advantage of and put into situation they would not hope for in their lives.

You have proof other than hearsay and your opinion?

  7. You want proof? Ok...Do you consider yourself of sound mind? If so, would you become a prostitute and fuck and give oral to 70 year old overweight women(half of whom do not wash everyday) for $50-$200 bucks each one?

How fucked up do you think you would have to be before you would do it?

  8. Statistics and evidence don't matter to you. You'll believe what you want to believe. [IMG]

Once again this is your opinion not proof. Anyone could give an opinion on anything, of course it might not be true.

  10. I've done some more research on this 3 day weekend, and I started with the website you gave. Sometimes research can be fun.
The US is #8 in total crimes per capita, so #9 in rapes per capita is not unusual.
The US is #24 in murders per capita, so I guess that would make us more civilized than other countries. [IMG]
In general, that is not true. "The research on convicted rapists has found several important motivational factors [which repeatedly implicated having] anger at women and having the need to control or dominate them" (wikipedia).

However, Richard Felson & James Tedeschi's book argues that sexual fulfillment is the motive of rapists, rather than the aggressive desire to dominate the victim, which supports peilthetraveler's argument (wikipedia).

Wikipedia is insufficient when it comes to relating the porn industry to rape. At this time, only radical feminists support peilthetraveler's assertion that the porn industry increases rapes. We can therefore say that peilthetraveler is a radical feminist. [IMG]
