Financed by the US, Iraq inflicted roughly a million casualties on Iran during the Iran/Iraq war. But Saddam developed a nasty habit of gassing his ethnic citizens in the north and invading his somewhat passive neighbors to the south and east. The US was willing to put up with being shot at a little until 9/11. When Saddam persisted with the SAMs it was time for him to go. I didn't appreciate that Afghanistan was neglected or that Iran was allowed to become "persians gone wild". It all pretty much sucked but Saddam was hanged and alot of bad guys killed there. I still think Iran needs a trip to the woodshed but am pretty sure that is not going to happen. What is far more likely is another Hezbollah/Israel war in southern Lebanon but this time Israel will also attack the Lebanese military and destroy Beriut all over again.
