Politics on the national level and the commercial media are controlled by a number of very wealthy people who want to protect their business models and accumulated money and power. It is a tapestry of creative misdirection and deceit. I think a lot of the reporters and editors at the NYT, etc. see this but are constrained. They drop clues to important issues but we have to read between the lines, like Russians said of Pravda in the waning days of the Soviet Union. Most politicians have weaknesses that have led to hooks being sunk into them of one type or another. Hillary's weakness is money. She is being castigated by progressives because of her Wall Street ties, but it also wouldn't surprise me if Wall Street wrapped itself around her because it doesn't trust her as much as Bill. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
why is it that our media is constrained as operating as the 4th estate? The same reason the politicians are hooked... and by the same people. the cronies own the media too. that is one of our biggest problems.
Why not face the facts - the US is totally run on money. Big money owns the papers, the banks, the politicians, anything worth owning etc. No longer a democracy but has turned itself into a plutocracy. Maybe a dose of Sanders will get it back on track for the people and away from the billionaires.
It has always been that way throughout the Western world, but globalization has concentrated power into the financial sector. Manufacturing and Labor used to be significant competing political forces.
Salon confirms what we have been saying. Hillary Clinton just can’t win: Democrats need to accept that only Bernie Sanders can defeat the GOP http://www.salon.com/2016/02/19/hil..._that_only_bernie_sanders_can_defeat_the_gop/ ... Please name the last person to win the presidency alongside an ongoing FBI investigation, negative favorability ratings, questions about character linked to continual flip-flops, a dubious money trail of donors, and the genuine contempt of the rival political party. In reality, Clinton is a liability to Democrats, and certainly not the person capable of ensuring liberal Supreme Court nominees and President Obama’s legacy.
And yet, if she's the nominee, I'll "hold my nose" (as some idiot here once said) and vote for her, over anyone from the right. Hell, even "Gumby could do a better job" (as some idiot here once said) than the right.
that is the problem with america today... in a nutshell... right there. we should not be voting for establishment republicans or establishment democrats.
