Once I became an avowed Schadenfreudist my whole world changed.

You're one but not in touch with yourself.

Lose the pity embrace the essence of nature and humankind therein lies happiness grasshopper.......

  2. I don't know my IQ score, but did get a 1510 on the SAT earlier this decade. I graduated with a chem degree from a top public school and was supposed to go to medical school. I even took the MCAT and got a 36 on it which would pretty much guarantee a top 10 school. My whole life I was preparing to become this hotshot surgeon. I had recommendations from directors at multinational pharmaceuticals, had been published in a pharmaceutical journal, etc.

I ended up graduating a semester early after having a good time in college but instead of going med, I got addicted to online poker. When my winnings amounted to more than what the average physician makes in a year, I decided to try penny stock trading, then small caps, then liquid stocks, then futures and options. I worked 18 hours/day for many months watching markets trade over and over. I am now 24 years old, I barely have a social life but I don't have to worry about money. Now what?

I can feel my brain chemistry change when I try to do something unrelated to the markets. I know I'm depressed. Seriously, what do I do now? I don't feel right socializing with people my own age any more. My only friends are in their mid 30s and 40s, other traders and pms who I've met online.

  4. You're not happy because you don't quite value or appreciate what you have.

Join the Peace corps or Americorps, it'll give you a whole new perspective in life.

Money sure doesn't buy happiness, but money buys security for us and our family and that is what makes us happy.

  5. I unno about you guys but money sure can me happy. I think of money as a artists canvas and brush, creating a masterpiece with that money sure makes me happy, wasting it does not however.

  6. Are we setup for disappointment from the beginning? The first years of your life, you are told about the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, Easter bunny etc… then at some point you learn or are told that it is not real, at least not real in the sense of how it was portrayed to you.

How many times in your life have you been misled or lied to by people you trust, it starts with your well meaning parents. What effect does that have on your perception of the world around you?

Now everybody handles it differently and I totally agree that we create our own reality, but if I had it all to do over again I would definitely keep it more real with my 2 sons.

Of course we can all sit around and blame our parents for why our lives aren’t working and then read about a person who has no arms and plays the guitar and is successful in business etc…

OK, I have opened my mind up enough, the door is closing.

  8. There is certainly a reason why Mr 147 IQ isn't happy. Hmm, let me guess :
His condescending attitude is a real turn off for chicks?
    Can I say bingo? :)

  10. I know exactly what you speak of, the solution may only exist in understanding the big picture.

you don't really fit in, and when you remind yourself of why you don't fit in, one can find some peace

fuck it, just like the rest of us, find good books, good radio stations, and do plenty of self reflections etc
