you have zero idea about vegan argument. meat is bad not because its from animal. whats wrong with it- it is chemically processed. the animals are fed shit at farms. the meat is stored for many weeks. all minerals and aminoacids of meat can be delivered from plant foods.
Thats not the vegan argument being made on this thread. There is piles of research documenting the negative health effects of eating sizable amounts of animal products. The animal cruelty and industrial farming aspects are separate moral arguments. As has been repeated, the only nutrient missing from vegan diets is b12- which is present in the soil we tend to wash off our foods.
A while back, I think it was killthesunshine had a vegan thread. I was on the other side of the argument. But I did read some of the links and did some more research on my own. Dang if I don't think the whole vegan thing has some truth to it. I have definitely cut down on red meat and the quantity of chicken and fish, can't do the strict vegan thing, but cutting down on saturated fats. I went on a life calculator and putting in my stats before changing some eating and exercise habits it showed me clocking out at 79. It's probably wrong, my dads about that age and still going strong after chain smoking for 65 years and being a hard drinker and he is an epic worrier, but physically doing ok. I digress, then I put in the calculator with a healthier diet, more exercise and it came to lasting till 97. That made me think, damn it would be so nice to be healthy and have fun hanging out with my grand kids when their grown and being there for them. Anyway that pretty much was my motivation and even though killthesunshine was a total ass sometimes I'm glad he busted my chops on that thread. I do feel much healthier on a lower animal protein diet, again not a vegan but not staying away from beef except for a treat now and then.
^ Good for you. You obviously have an ax to grind about Vegan diets. The stuff I posted is plant-based, but not totally Vegan. Once again, read up a bit before shooting first; you might learn something. Doesn't matter to me whether you love or hate Vegans. Is irrelevant to what I posted. Now, -if- anyone is interested in possibly taking their diet up a few notches, then checkout this Fuhrman/Gundry stuff; it's worth a look. Bye-bye; on to things that really matter...
NOW you're gettin' it I first started experimenting w/diet in 1979. Tried everything(almost) and when I found something that made me feel better, I kept that; something not so good, I dropped it. Unfortunately, whatever you wanna believe is out there in print somewhere. Can make it tough to wade through all of the crap to find the few goodies that matter. Much easier today, tho, with the web and much better research and numbers to back up that research. One of the first things I did was fry up some pork chops(yummy). BIG fav from my youth. Try 'em with zero seasonings, zero sauce, zero anything and you'll get a hint that maybe, just maybe, pork chops shouldn't be on our menu. As I posted above, after all is said and done, I feel that you're better off starting with what you oughta be feeding your face, rather that what to take away. Make sure you're getting the essential nutrients FIRST, adapt to that, then see if your tastes for some of the crap food go away. Chances are you'll find it much easier to do away w/garbage stuff you've eaten for years. It definitely takes time(weeks/months) to adapt to a cleaner diet, especially depending upon what you're coming from(I used to eat steak/baked potato/light salad for typical dinner, so I know). It's also worth considering that the big food companies that control most of what YOU think YOU know are mainly interested in growing profits. Killing off their customers doesn't bother them, as there's a brand new crop of know-nothings coming right along(your children). Don't fully believe whatever you read until you fully investigate it for yourself. What works will work; what won't won't.
enjoyed the repertoire in thekill the sunshine journal,he was a smartass but fair about it,this jorunal is a wakeup call, macho man and bare ass, reflect the typical resistance to change,i can relate to that ,lot of testimonials, better than a bunch of links, got me thinking, been eating salads for 2 weeks
Help me out with this. I need about 110gr of protein/ day. What are the plants to eat ,the best way to get it from plants ? Thanks,
First, you don't need 110grams a day. 55 to 70 grams /day is recommended by most sources. You can't get it only from plants. Here's what i eat: food / amount / amount of protein kefir / 400g / 13g oats / 50g / 6g cottage cheese / 150g / 15g almonds / 20g / 4g pumpkin seeds / 20g / 5g chlorella / 4g / 2g spirulina /4g / 2g avocado / 1 medium / 4g kiwi / 4 / 4g total grams of protein: 55 add few other things and you can easily get 70 grams, without ANY meat or even eggs.
Rice and beans form a complete protein (all essential amino acids), and will easily put you at your protein number (the lower one mentioned by the above poster, which is correct). The best part is they offer a plethora of options for flavor with many different rice and bean options. Add corn in (or sub for rice) if you want to mix it up. Hummus and pita and tortillas and refried beans also combine to form a complete protein. Great thread, by the way. Except for some very poorly informed naysayers.
