Why do we need a 400 million a pop F-22 jet to blow up camels?

I just jumping to conclusions here... but those pilots are athletes. Their bodies are probably demanding more than coffee.

I would not want to suck filtered engine bleed air for a fricken minute if I had a choice.

I can't even drive my car with the windows closed.

Our enemy is not a single country. It is extremism from several countries.

Two words: I hate the looser terrorists.

  3. China is a capable opponent, they will continue to gain ground on us for the foreseeable future and Russia still has a more than capable military. the B-52's are doing all the work in Iraq because they are basically untouchable by what we are facing there.. that wouldn't be the case in a war against a modern military. The B-1 is viewed as a waste of money now, but that is hindsight.. you could make that case against all obsolete equipment. We should maintain what we already have, it is not preparing for the 'last war', it is strategic defense of our nation and a deterrent to actual war. I believe that bomber base is in SD because North is the shortest route to Moscow.

I am just repeating myself but defense is necessary and there are many other fed programs and agencies etc that are not, which should be scrapped before digging into defense.. we could start with GSA.

  4. in the information age with video cameras and satellites everywhere do you think we might know if china ever decides to build a fighter that we need to worry about? you dont build these things over night. it takes years to build up a military industrial complex.

    Obama is a socialist.
    We have lots of unemployed.
Lets put everyone collecting unemployment benefits to work building ships or planes or guns or butter or something we import like flat screens.

So many people are scamming the system we could have a better economy and a better infrastructure or military.

That is a concept that should not be right or left.
Jobs over welfare. 25 hours a week in exchange for a welfare or unemployement check.

  6. The other side of the argument is that you don't always get to choose when to fight a war,and you are not always aware of your enemy's capabilities. It's comforting to think that we have this huge technological advantage, but I would not want to risk much on underestimating Chinese capability. We underestimated Japanese capability at the start of WW II and we were very lucky not to be overrun. Had our carriers all bee in Pearl when they attacked, game over.

With the F-22, if they are $400 mill a pop, we can't afford it, no matter how good they are. I would assume that cost goes down over a large enough production run, but I have trouble seeing the justification for spending billions on them in our current financial straits.

  7. come on get serious. you really think that if the chinese were doing a fighter jet program we wouldnt know about it?
its useful to look at how we fight wars today. first go in the cruise missles to take out the airplanes on the ground and also take out their support systems. sadam could have had fighter jets twice as good as ours and he still would have been lucky to get even one of our f18s.
