SORRY FOR THE CAPS LOCK BUT I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY. YOU KNOW WHAT'D BE REAL COOL....TO HAVE VOLUME BARS SUPERIMPOSED ON A NORMAL PRICE/TIME CHART. THEN YOU HAVE A SITUATION WHERE YOU CAN VARY THE WIDTH OF THE VOLUME BARS IN ACCORDANCE TO HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES FOR ONE TO CLOSE AND ANOTHER TO OPEN. PLEASE FORWARD THIS GREAT IDEA TO ALL THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES....OR BETTER YET PATENT IT AND GET RICH OFF MY IDEA.
GREAT errr... great epiphany. However, before anyone rushes to a patent lawyer, know this idea has already been published and in use for years. It's called Equi Volume. Here's a short article on what it is and here's what Richard Arms implementation of it looks like: By the way, a variable width implementation could mess up the time axis and warp time-based indicators (eg, MAs, etc) on the chart or indicator pane, but Ensign implements a tweak to counteract that.
Just to clarify, The Equi-Volume Bars are not the same as the Volume Bars. The Equi-Volume Bars are variable bars so they are inconsistent in the way they are built. To Howard Arlington's credit though he/Ensign was the first to introduce an accurate Volume Bar chart (after two years of me prodding him and his tech support staff). Howard and Ensign is one of the most forward thinking development teams out there. Ensign Software would be perfect if they would fix the refresh feature, fix the memory leak and allow a trading platform to be attached to it.
please forgive me if my memory fails, but were not you attempting to patent a method, system or indicator, professor? if so, any success?? regards, surfer
here's a link that will help your memory: Let me share with you how my Perfectly Logical Trading System developed from the early undertakings in research to where it is heading currently: being the first patent pending trading methodology in the world because all its critical decision parts can be completely flowcharted. http://www.seminar-shop.com/static/presse/artikel,1518377.html is the patent still pending??
My memory is just fine. I take daily prescribed mega doses of Ginko Bilba & Vitamin B12. Do you know what happens to a patent after 20 years? It reverts to public domain. After I found this out from a patent attorney in New York, (unlike some people, I respect the expertise of those more learned than myself in fields they specialize in). After this was confirmed, I pulled the process and let the pending status expire. The reason would be obvious to almost everyone but you.
ah, you better get another lawyer. patents can be and are renewed on a regular basis. coca cola is a prime example.
