Why Does the Cable-TV Bundle Exist? http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/why-does-the-cable-tv-bundle-exist/ar-BBkQK3M
One more reason to hate Comcast. They now charge for a service call, ON THEIR EQUIPMENT. 3 months ago I upgraded to their xfinity deal, faster internet, more TV channels, and so on. I was out of the old contract and they made a decent offer. Guy comes out, changes the boxes, runs a couple new cables, done. So now I'm in a new 2 year contract. Whatever. Month or so goes by and I keep having trouble with a lost signal, screen locking up on one channel. I call. They can't resolve it over the phone. Guy comes out. Finds a couple bad connectors outside the house at the junction box on the side of my home. Replaces them, runs a new cable in and it's done. Yesterday I get my bill and there's a $90.00 charge for the service. I call, get the run around of course. Finally the person says, meet us half way. We'll pay half, you pay half. If that's not an admission of guilt I don't know what is. They're scamming people into paying for service. I say ain't gonna' happen and am now waiting for the mysterious "supervisor" to call back. It'll cost me 600 bucks to cancel but if I can't get this resolved, fuck'em, I'll pay the early termination fee and move on.
From what I understand, if the problem is outside the premises, they charge to come out. If it is inside the house, they eat the cost. That part seems reasonable to me, but no less annoying. I watch maybe ten channels. I don't need 50 christian channels and 1000 channels of other pure crap. People should pay $3/M for each channel they choose. For me that would come to about $40/M. Internet access should be $20/M for a Gig connection. So all told, maybe the whole shebang should never go for more than about $50/M excluding taxes. Also if I pay for a channel, I don't ever want to see ads. EVER.
