why do people laugh when I mention day trading?

  1. its a generational thing,

seems most traders point to this very same statement,

seems the older generation really knew what they were talking about, after living through the depression and the next generation (children of those in the depression), in terms of needing (mental) stability from a hand to mouth job...

the ability to handle inordinate risk, like traders do, each and every day, is not a gift of all men.... or women....

  3. Because any douche bag with a computer and a couple thousand dollars can call themselves a trader. It especially funny when you still live with your parents or live in a shitty apartment. In reality you are just unemployed and probably a huge loser and should just go get a job. You are not an entrepreneur.

If you could become a doctor by buying a couple knives and an operating table, people probably would run from anyone that said they were a doctor... Thats why you are getting the reaction you are getting.

I would love if there was a little more professionalism in this business.

  7. for most people day trading is fools gold. the most common number is 80-90% fail. i know. you are sure you will be in the 10% that make money.
even for many of those that make money, if you understand oppertunity cost, you will not come out ahead. if you have the ability to make 50k a year at a job plus benifits it means you must make > 1000 per weekdaytrading to just break even. for most people it will be more profitable to keep your day job and do your trading in a longer term timeframes.
