Why do companies release earnings midday? JOSB

I was just watching JOSB surge $3 because of earnings being released midday. Why do companies choose to do this and not wait release the news outside trading hours?

Is this what people here prefer, midday or during non-trading hours? Personally I think this stuff should be left for after hours.

 

i would prefer midday so that everybody can take part in the action.
