Why are people so secretive here?

Discussion in 'Index Futures' started by pclark, Aug 27, 2008.

  1. ET remains to be a place that draws the people who want to learn how to trade. As such it represents a rather fascinating closed ecological system of various species of prey and predators:
    1) learners (e.g. MandelbrotSet )
    2) fakers (e.g. MAESTRO, who claims to be a quant and yet has no idea what a stable distribution really is)
    3) predators (e.g. austinp, who attempts to sell to aspiring learners. Nice copywriting skills though - Constance Brown / maalox guy price failure pattern - rather creative, nice touch. But not good enough for the big league)
    4) failures (e.g. lilduckling)

Some aren't so obvious in their tells, but it's irrelevant.

There are very few people who actually trade for a living and post information that is useful to somebody who wants to learn. ( and I am not one of them)

Once you find them, you will see how funny the question is in the title of this thread.

  2. I believe helping others in business is a great endeavor. In fact, it is one that I love. However, trading is not like other businesses. Due to liquidity issues and the nature of the market, giving somebody else too much help could easily mean destroying your own system.

  3. What is it about liquidity issues and the nature of the market that would destroy a system if you give somebody else too much help?:D

And how much help is not too much as not to destroy a system and still be of help to somebody else?

    Care to elaborate?

  4. You forgot to mention kool-aid addicts.

  5. As a learner I have to try all drinks available to see which one is to my taste.

If you're implying something else - do not forget you admitted to being a failure in '05 and it seems that you're still operating in a failure mode.

Perhaps the road to the Guru status, a website and $995 online workshops is taking a bit longer than expected.

  6. You need to carve your own path and forget about sampling other peoples drinks.

You have the answer all along, but you have to look within, not out.

When you "awaken" its the greatest feeling in the world, and all the experts and gurus will then have the sole purpose of being your entertainment

I'm from the old school but a universal belief that I hold is if you want more of something you must first give it to recieve it. This holds true for money, love and knowledge. There comes a time when you no longer do what you love for the money. You do it for the love of the game and in return the money follows. I get more enjoyment out of helping others who are struggling than by actually making winning trades. Try it sometimes, you just may be surprised at the results.

  8. :D A bit metaphysical - but your copywriting skills are getting better. Keep at it, throw in some metaphors, may be attend a creative writing workshop at your local community college - and pretty soon you'll be as good as austinp.

The "awakening" part has not been beaten to death yet by the likes of him - so you might have a niche here.

  10. Well, in order for him to try it, he first has to stop pretending he is quant and start making winning trades.
