Speaking of both China Club and Shelter. I live in a condo which is part of the complex which replaced almost the whole block in 1997. My condo's balcony has a view, which, if you squint your eyes and put on some old Ministry while drinking a beer, you would swear that you were in Shelter's old outdoor VIP room. Progress.....
No, these were "adult" clubs. The real "kids" club (juice bar only) was called Medussa's. It was on Sheffield near Belmont. Medussa's was a ton of fun because IMHO they played the best dance music - even for the "older" crowd like me in those days (early twenties.) It was eventually shut down because parents were complaining that there wasn't any real "security" in place at the club and that their kids were getting access to alcohol and more dangerous drugs. Too bad... nitro
nitro, Smart Bar is still good. Also, I don't know crobar before they remodelled but it's nice... Excaliber and La Passage = bunch of tourists Though the bottom line is, Chicago crowd sucks. 99.95% of the crowd doesn't know dance floor etiquettes like being conscious about the distance between each other ( It's not good to bump into each other and giving some space when someone's top rocking to break ), or not have a filled drink in your hand ( most likely you will spill it on someone and wet the floor ), etc. etc. Actually, most people can't dance anyways it's really funny when a girl asks a guy to dance with her on the floor and the guy chickens out.... Also, it's always funny to see a bunch of guys paying $20 cover just to stand at the corner and watch others, really doing nothing. Or guys who drink till they drop... How do they expect to score if they can't control their alcohol... Well... clubbing is always fun... PS. I have a hangover...
You made my point as I was addressing it. Early twenties would have been what my age group might have refered to as the older kids/college group at that time. I've got you by some years it sounds like.
Faces? on Rush? Wasn't that like, 1976, or something? Back when some bar called "Mr (something)" was where Gibson's is now? Wasn't that back when Ogden Avenue went all the way to Clark Street?
