I think you summarized it perfectly. Draft athleticism and market that to sell the seats. WIth the amount of money it takes to sign these premier players, it makes it hard to build a well balanced team. As far as the Bulls go. I should temper my comments from the other day. Not because they beat the Bucks, but because I believe that if Crawford becomes the main focus of this team, things can only improve. He is a true playmaker and as much as Paxson and upper management may resent the kid, he is crucial to the development of the players around him. If Crawford continues to get the minutes and the respect of the coaching staff, I see a much bigger improvement going forward for the team...
I was listening to sports radio earlier tonight and heard that Pippen now says his knee is so damaged he wont be back for this season, and will more than likely retire after the end of this season. The Bulls are on the hook for both years at about $10million.... Now I dont want to be accused of hindsight analysis, but this whole Scottie Pippen revival never sat well with me to begin with. He has had nagging injuries for the past few seasons, and now at age 38 he was signed for a two year contract worth $10 million. This is going to reflect poorly on Paxson I believe. And again, I think this Rose, Marshall, Baxter trade is a bomb. Davis and Williams cannot create scoring opportunities on their own, which is a major necessity in the NBA. Instead, the Bulls only true playmaker right now is Crawford and to a lesser extent Kendall Gill. So I guess we can look forward to a season of Miami Heat type offense... On another note, what the hell is with guys coming and going off the injured list on a nightly basis. Blount, Chandler, Pippen, Linton Johnson, Fizer, (Eddie Robinson is due for his one month vacation on the injured list)...Seems nowadays guys just dont suit up if they dont feel like it. Rant over...
I went to watch the game the other evening. Sad, sad, sad. It is a team full of players that could not truly sit the bench of some of the NBA teams of the seventies. Not based upon athleticism, but talent. None of these guys have a bread and butter move that can get consistent scoring results. This is a team full of rich guys who are just drawing checks. They aren't even a decent practice squad.
