Yeah its retarded for them to not halt trading when some traders still had access to the exchange. I had a large CL short position on and I was going to flat the position at pit close but couldn't do it due to the outage, was forced to cover at a much higher price in the end, reducing my profit for the trade by 30%. Would have been worse if I hadn't partially hedged it with UWT. I'm surprised to see this happen on what is supposed to be the top exchange for derivatives in the world, this is what we usually experience on 3rd world exchanges, not CME.
I was long 18 cars at 70.45. The real squeeze occurred exactly as the outage did around 2:32. I gave up a great deal of open equity. Covered from 70.81-.84 as soon as the problem was fixed at 3:38. You can see the spike of trapped shorts covering at that time.
