Who Really Caused The Deficit?

  1. The words "fact" and "Obama budget proposal" should not be used in the same sentence.

Even the Washington Post has mocked the absurd assumptions he uses.

There is truth in your statement. However, while Democrats prefer to pay for spending with tax revenues, Republicans favor deficit spending because their tax cuts only add to the shortfall. And now that the deficit situation has been worsened largely due to the Republican policy of disregarding the revenue component of the budget, the Republicans wish to go ideological by cutting arguably essential spending required to keep the vital middle class afloat, while maintaining unnecessary spending (increases in military spending?!) and pushing for even lower taxes:

So Republicans want to have their cake and eat it, too. First, they paint the economy into a corner, and then they hold a gun to its head, blaming Democrats and demanding to pursue their ideological agenda, thereby even worsening the situation over time. The very situation that they largely authored.

(P.S. Ricter, you found a good and useful chart. Thanks.)
