OK, now that we have the first US Omicron death (Houston male in his 50s, with previous Covid infection and underlying issues) and some data points, let's do a prediction. Looks like 80% less likely that an infected ends up in hospital, but 70 times more infectious. 30% of the nation are still idiots, so plenty to work with. 2 super spreader events coming soon, Christmas and New year's Eve. This wave is much faster than the previous ones, it runs up to the peak in 3-4 weeks, with a shorter asymptomatic time. The current 7 day death rate is around 1200. So since the Omicron deaths have just started but the infection ramp up has been going on for about 3 weeks, I think the next 10 days with the super spreader events will do it and we will reach infection peak by the first week of January. Death should be peaking about 7-10 days later, so mid-January, from where both numbers should collapse rather quickly. I am predicting a 7 day top peak death of 2.5K, much less than last January's, but still a decent increase from the current 1.2K. Let's check back in 3-4 weeks how I did... By early February most of the nation will be immunized, either by vax or by nature.

Our oldest who is a surgical nurse just went home today from work. He is waiting for a virtual visit before going in for Covid test. He would be the 21st person in his department with Covid if he tests positive. My wife just got her 2nd booster as she is going home to help her Dad after his surgery, and she felt bad last week, but not enough to test. She recovered in 2 days. Youngest was sick over the weekend, but pretty sure it was a cold and he kindly enough gave it to me. I am on day 2 of feeling like crap, but no loss of smell or taste, so I am going with cold. I am at roughly 6 months since my second shot of Moderna, and the youngest is only 2 months since his 2nd dose of Pfizer. Their hospital is full of unvaccinated Covid patients.
The oldest was tested yesterday and came up positive. He definitely is getting a fairly strong hit, he is miserable. He has to have a virtual meeting with a nurse practioner and may end up getting immunotherapy. The wife has to have a virtual meeting today to determine if she needs to get tested since she was in close proximty to our son. I am telling her to get tested regardless. I feel like I have a sinus infection, congestion and sinus pain, so not sure if I have it, but could be. A hot shower followed by cold seems to have helped me get going this morning. As far as the booster for me, I am at the 6 month mark and I am pretty sure that is the minimum they are having you wait before getting it, and I had Moderna which I thought was longer.
