Covid deaths rare among fully vaccinated - ONS (England)

    Covid-UK-Office-National-Statistics-Vaccinated-Not-Vaccinated.png
    • Out of more than 51,000 Covid deaths in England between January and July 2021, only 256 occurred after two doses.
They were mostly people at very high risk from illness from Covid-19.

The figures show the high degree of protection from the vaccines against illness and death, the ONS said.

Some deaths after vaccination were always expected because vaccines are not 100% effective, and it takes a couple of weeks after your second dose to build the fullest protection.

Of the 51,281 deaths involving Covid registered in England between 2 January and 2 July 2021:
    • 640 (1.2%) were people who had received both vaccine doses
    • This total includes people who had been infected before they were vaccinated
    • Some 458 deaths (0.8%) were people who died at least 21 days after their second dose
    • Just 256 deaths (0.5%) were people who were both fully vaccinated and who had their first positive PCR test at least 14 days after their second dose
"Breakthrough" deaths - occurring at least two weeks after the second jab along with a first positive PCR Covid test - tend to happen in the most vulnerable, men and those with weakened immune systems, with the average age being 84.

But overall numbers were very small - they accounted for only 0.5% of all deaths from Covid-19 over the first six months of the year.

Julie Stanborough, from the ONS, said: "Our new analysis shows that, sadly, there have been deaths of people involving Covid-19 despite them being fully vaccinated.

"However, we've also found that the risk of a death involving Covid-19 is much lower among people who are fully vaccinated than those who are unvaccinated."

Among those who died after two doses, 13% were immunocompromised, 61% were male and more than 75% were clinically extremely vulnerable.

In the UK, 80% of people aged 16 and over have had two doses and nearly 90% have had one dose.

Since vaccinations were offered to priority, high-risk groups first - as advised by the UK's vaccine advisory body - comparing the number of deaths in vaccinated and unvaccinated groups over time is not useful.

As more and more people are vaccinated, the numbers of fully vaccinated people infected with Covid who then die from it will also grow - although Covid deaths are much lower now than they were before vaccines.

Last Friday was decision day at the hospital where my wife and 2 kids work. People either had to have their excuse accepted for not getting vaccinated or leave. At this point at least in my wife's departments they are giving people another chance to get in an excuse or start the process. I gather a few people at the hospital have left, but it doesn't sound like a mass exodus.
In the meantime I have been reading about all the local school boards that are getting recalled, and parents who have lost their minds over the issues of masks and vaccinations. This is on both sides of the issues, not just one.
On another note I was up in northern Wisconsin driving ATV's for the first time, that is a blast, and the bars were wall to wall people with no masks and presumably a low vaccination rate up there. I seem to have come back healthy and didn't get the family sick, hopefully from being vaccinated.
I'll throw in for my own pat on the back, the first time I have hung out with buddies from college since I quit drinking(roughly 7 years), and didn't have any alcohol.

TikTok floods children with false information about corona. Children who sign up on TikTok are flooded with all kinds of nonsense about covid from the first minute, even if they don't look for it. This is according to a study by the media watchdog NewsGuard.

All this social media is full of fake news. Social media is trying to controml people, not vaccinations.

The weekly FL numbers are in, finally they are below 200/day, reporting 1213 deaths. This is the 4th week in a row where the numbers slowly but continuously dropping, so the wave peaked sometimes in the 3rd-4th week of August there.

"There are some 660 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 at AdventHealth Central Florida’s hospitals in seven counties.
That represents an almost 50 percent drop in hospitalizations from the peak in August when about 1,700 people were in its hospital and ICU beds.
Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Neil Finkler says, “This slow, but steady decline in new admissions of COVID-19 patients is a positive signal that we continue to head in the right direction.”

Safest state is Massachusetts. Hey, that is where I am not so accidentally vacationing.

I wouldn't be surprise by end of year...the advertisement company wins an award for that Ad. It's incredible and I watched the reaction of the people walking on the streets from young to old...it caught the attention of every single person.

    Note:
Funeral company does not exist but the point of the Advertisement was the combo of the "Don't Get Vaccinated" with the name of a funeral company just below the words "Don't Get Vaccinated"....brilliant subliminal message to encourage vaccination. :sneaky:

Reality, funeral homes in the South are doing great business so far in 2021 in comparison to 2020. Last year, more people elected to have their loved one cremated whereas this year they're more involved in moving the dead out of the hospitals and normal funerals that bring in the big bucks (fewer cremations).

One funeral home giant in the south...made a profit of $280 million dollars more than it ever has...thanks to Covid and people not getting vaccinated.

A billboard in North Carolina telling people not to get the COVID-19 vaccine was actually meant to do quite the opposite.

In downtown Charlotte on Sunday, those walking to and around Bank of America Stadium to see the Carolina Panthers face the New Orleans Saints could see a truck driving around with a black digital billboard that simply read, "Don't get vaccinated," in white lettering. Under the message was "Wilmore Funeral Home" and their web address.
    • But here's the catch: Wilmore Funeral Home doesn't exist, and visiting their website results in a message contrary to the one seen on the billboard.
"Get vaccinated now. If not, see you soon." When clicking the hyperlink on the message, the website redirects to StarMED Healthcare, a company that's been helping Charlotte residents get the COVID-19 vaccine.

After photos of the truck went viral on Twitter, the ad agency BooneOakley claimed responsibility for the ad, tweeting, "It was us. Get vaccinated."

David Oakley, owner of BooneOakley, told USA TODAY he came up with the idea to make the billboard. He said most pro-vaccine ads around the country are pretty similar and wanted something that stood out.

"We kind of were joking around like, 'well you know, undertakers and funeral homes are probably doing a great business right now,'" Oakley said.

Oakley and his team thought about a funeral home ad saying they don't want your business, but decided to flip it around. From there, the company was able to get StarMED on board with the idea.
"They were nervous and I was nervous about like putting the message out there. You never know when you put a provocative piece of advertising out how the public will take it," Oakley said.

Chris Dobbins, chief relations and response officer for StarMED, told WBTV in a statement, "While we recognize there are varying opinions and different types of media messages, we support all efforts to educate and motivate our community to prevent and stop the spread of this virus.”

The truck drove around Charlotte for a few hours beginning on Sunday morning. Oakley added the reasoning for that was to get the attention of all the fans headed to the football game. Since tailgating is a big event in the city, he wanted to give people, "a little more to talk about than just football."

The main reason for the billboard was North Carolina's "embarrassingly low" vaccination rate. North Carolina is one of 17 states with less than half of their population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to USA TODAY analysis. The state has 49% of the population fully vaccinated and 58% have received at least one dose.

Now days later, Oakley views the ad a great success.

"My feeling is if we could do something, put out an advertisement that would get one person vaccinated, it was worth every penny we paid for the Billboard," he said.

I take back what I wrote about no exodus of employees at my wife's hospital. She has had 4 people say they are quitting, and the rest of the hospital has been told they have to have a plan to submit to the CEO on how they are going to maintain operations as a result of mounting people leaving.
People thought healthcare was insane with their cost increases year after year, it is going to be a big jump this coming year. The Agency people my wife has to work with just increased their charges about ~$40/hour. I am guessing nursing staff is getting an even bigger jump.
Here's to hoping my wife will be able to retire on her own terms and not be let go as stuff gets outsourced, or operations are cut back due to lack of staff.
