I'm getting my first shot if AstraZeneca this morning.
Have been holding off so far because (a) was (and still am) getting treatment for cancer and (b) wanted to see how the rest of the community was reacting to it. I had/have a rare cancer in the ear which after an operation appears atm has been removed succesfully and now they discovered cancer in esophagus which is the next job to be done. Note; other than doctors advising me, I wouldn't know I have it.

In Australia seniors have no choice other than only AstraZeneca and there's been lots of negative publicity about it, but after mulling pros and cons, think I'm better to take what is available than nothing.

There are some signs, that the current wave has been peaking. Sorry for the paywall:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/01/briefing/delta-peak-covid-caseload.html

Anyhow, before we get into the signs, let's realize that there are different peaks:

-death, new infections, hospitalizations and these vary locally, thus the South could peak before the North

    Signs:

    - FL reported 1300 deaths for the week. Assuming these are really numbers (I know) these are actually below last week's.
    - 80% of the US have some kind of immunity, either from the vaccine or from previous infection. The virus is running out of people ready to be infected
    - Cases and positive test rate in Chicago are going down. Cases are down in NYC.
    - Usually Delta burns through society in 2-3 months.

So we shall see. It may have a long plateau instead of a big drop, but I think we are reaching herd immunity one way or the other.

    Edit:

Houston COVID Numbers Are Flattening, Doctors Say. But The ‘Plateau’ Is Higher Than Ever

As you likely know, esophageal cancer has a low survival rate because it's usually discovered after the cancer has started spreading. I was diagnosed with stage II-B esophageal cancer (tumor spread inside the esophagus and cancer cells detected in nearby lymph nodes) and was treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. My experience was very unpleasant, but I've survived more than six years after all treatments.

If you decide to get chemotherapy, you might want to consider getting a medical port surgically-installed. This makes it easier for the chemotherapy to be administered because nurses won't need to poke your arm to find a good vein.

    Good luck.

The dumbfuckery level is just beyond comprehension:

"Witnessed this personally, denying the reality, even in the face respiratory failure without immediate medical intervention. Person arrives, can barely get out of their truck. "im just dehydrated". in the er/urgent, their pulseox is the super low, like 60% range, doesnt want to consent to anything, but final does. An hour later, she's of course still sick, we're talking about elective intubation and admission to the unit, and this person signs out AMA (against medical advice), and her husband f-ing TAKES HER HOME.

She likely died, maybe they went somewhere else. i never looked on her chart to see if she was admitted, because i just dont care anymore."

  7. If its on Reddit it must be true....especially with a name like Dr Colon.... Kinda like the stories the media was pumping out back in July about kids 13 and 14 dieing from COVID cause they werent Jabbed... with the parents saying my poor babies were so healthy -> no medical issues at all., then I researched the cases and OMG the ones written up by the media was first cases back in MAY not recent in July ( Rehashing / churning )and worse of I saw pictures of the kids . MORBIDLY OBESE, easily 300 + Lbs no neck and they were pushing the narrative the kids were healthy,,,please.....All these stats are wonderful to push a narrative - How many had cancer , how many were morbidly obese, how many were smokers, how many were 80yrs older where are those #'s... Back in Jan 2021 they said if you had weaken Immune system not to get the Jab, now they want you to get the 3rd jab if you have a weaken Immune System,,, m to mask or not to mask,, wait a day and it will change .....

Correct. I could easily quote a hundred similar stories... Also from newspapers with real names. The other day there was a day in the Covid wing, should be required reading for your kind.

It is totally the tourists down in Florida:

"We just finished a Disney trip. I know it was risky but my family desperately needed it and we were over-the-top careful. Big difference in the crowd behavior based on which days we were there. Weekday Disney was almost empty, and everyone was great about wearing masks and keeping their distance. It was nice. Weekends, when the locals all came out, people were aggressively defying the mask and distance rules. After a couple days in Florida I can easily understand why they got hit so hard. These people just do not seem to give a crap."

"One of my clients is a hospital physician in Palm Beach. Arguably one of the epicenters of the Florida COVID crisis. He said that 1/2 of his hospital’s beds are COVID patients and that at least 1/3 of the hospital staff are unvaccinated by choice"

Our youngest is heading to Disney with some friends next week. I have gotten to the point of pissing him off about going at this time, but I am not going to win. He finally has gotten a vaccine, but he only has the first shot in at this point. He probably has been exposed to Covid at his job and is one of the many who weren't affected by it, so hopefully that plus first dose have built up his immunity.
In addition to Covid they are all missing a week of classes, so again, Dad is really pissed off.
