I live a couple of blocks from the ocean in Southern California and my daughters and I could see the contrail quite clearly through our telescope. We've seen many missle tests and this one was a medium/narrow contrail relative to most that we've seen (particularly from Vandenberg). There were strong winds aloft and the wind forces spread it across the sky quickly making it look larger than it originated. We've seen many large missle launches over the years, and this did not look like a large missile contrail. More like medium sized. Not sure what it was, but I doubt that it was an ICBM based on smaller size and relatively flat trajectory (measured off horizon) .
The first few frames of the newscast shows a Chinook helicopter in the top right, do you think they may have noticed a missile launch?
I found a video of the rocket being launched from a ship at sea. SLBM launch from rogue US Military commanders showing THEY have some control over very critical events. :eek: The Pentacon and US early warning systems were totally caught of guard it seems......this is a very interesting event imo. :eek:
