It's pretty amazing also the number of newbies suddenly posting on ET and concentrating on this thread
I have always thought that this is the main purpose of most advisory services. What better way of increasing the odds of your trades being a success than to have a large number of traders make the same trade in your direction. Charles
Good point. Also, a good way to liquidate large positions. Very old market maker strategy: liquidate large positions into increasing volume. Charles
This thread is providing an interesting insight into group psychology. I would like to follow up on some claims posted here that noone is making money from woodies room. There is no doubt that contributions to Make a Wish are very laudable but the blatant soliciting of commercial products like frontends and charting packages permitted in the room is less so. There is no doubt that with an increasing number of visitors to the room, the commercial opportunities will increase. At the moment Hotcomm are the obvious beneficiary. They have increased their fees three times since woodies room moved there. The cult aspect of the room has been discussed here many times and ridiculed by some room members. What they forget is that denial is one of the prime symptoms of cult. All personal thought must be suppressed and the cult mantra adopted. Another symptom displayed here has been (as harrytrader pointed out) the increasing outpouring of new posters in defence of the cult, like soldier ants or bees answering the call from within to set forth and defend the colony against all threatening transgressors. I have stated before that the room has many redeeming qualities but there must be some out there hoping that there will be a happier outcome than Waco or Guyana.
Not all posters are so new. I notice my registration is older than matildas or Charles. Funny thing is that I never posted here because after I joined I got bored with the negative rubbish that keeps pouring out from some of the members so I went elsewhere. Why such cynicism? Does it make you feel better. People speculate that Woodie helps people for the fame etc while trying to make themselves feel better by putting others down. Sadly not all that rare in trading chat rooms. Is it a substitute for successful trading? And Bali Survivor: I don't know where you go the idea that I might be your protege - or that I got booted from the room. You don't have to go along with everything thats said - the main thing is not to confuse people who are trying to learn. But in the second to last paragraph you seem to be crediting the room with bringing you to successful trading. Why, if you were able to become successful, should everyone elses dreams be shattered? Good Trading and Greater Happiness to you all.
from reading this thread , it is my understanding that woodie is at least 90 years old, he can not type or read fast, yet he has super fast trading reflexes as pointed out by a woodie room member ?? come on, the dude has all the attributes of a larger than life myth. can anyone provide background on this guy ?? surfer
I don't think Woodies room can be blamed for that. He surely choose hotcommn because they are good and not too pricey (yet). If a few charting packages or frontends get promoted it is probably because they are good. BTW has everyone tried Buttontrader
Surf, on the site there used to be a bio of Woodie. I did not find it this time. Guess he wants to be mysterious. Next time I see him, I will ask him what his job background was. Though at 90, I hardly think it matters. He has been retired so long.
It is a joke that he is 90 right?? If he is then he deserves a medal for putting in the sort of work he does to keep his room going. I have said some critical things about the room but the fact that it is free gives woodie the right to run it how he sees fit. Why shouldn't he say 'my way or the highway', after all we can all start our own rooms if we want something else.
