Oh but they are. It just isn't as immediate as the black population is in Chicago. Note that this is the group that you are predominantly exposed to - stop and think about why you are focusing your fear so intently... Culturally, one can make the argument that America's history with slavery and the very recent (1960's) equality movement is still contributing to black people's socio-economic status. I don't have all the facts handy, but, in general I do not believe that generations of oppression and racism can be reversed in a matter of 40-50 years. In other words Mike you claim poverty causes crappy behavior. I contend crappy behavior causes poverty.
They are intertwined. You can't just say A = B so we'll stop A and end B. That's not how people work.
They are NOT intertwined! Have you ever been poor? Well I have! Lived in poor village ... NO electricity ... NO running water..... and NO CRIME!! Very poor but peaceful people... living off the land.... making their own goods to trade.... helping others.. offering any extra goods to those in more need.... Crime and poverty are not related Crime begets crime..... Bad parents...... bad enviorement..... Ghetto blacks are like crabs in a bucket..... when one tries to climb out, the rest pull him back down...... When a black does good in school... his peers accuse him of "trying to be white" A ghetto black is doomed.... looked down by the whites.... and when he tries to better himself.... is scorned by his fellow blacks..... that is the reality in todays hip hop culture. Of course this does not apply to middle class blacks
could someone explain to me the popularity of a thread containing the phrase "dumb bitch" .... here's a thought experiment.... replace "dumb bitch" with "Governor of Alaska" ... I'm surrounded by detestable human beings ...
Some people say she's a hot VPILF and fluffer-mouth... and nothing else. Some people say you should bomb and destabilize nations that have not done anything wrong. Some people pay to protect their gas guzzlers, super meals and to have the fanciest stuff as cheap as possible - exploiting others. Some people buy products and services where kids are working, treat people that work with them as shit, are bigots and deny rights to others. Now - who really gives a flying fuck about a dumb bitch from Alaska? (she is smart though, and hot...)
Yes, I've been poor and the reason why your example above doesn't apply (albeit it is inspiring) is that there is no economic polarization to contend with. In your example, there are no rich people who have substantially more than their neighbors. Hence, jealousy and envy do not exist - everyone is essentially equal in terms of wealth. That is also why there is no progress being made and why the infant mortality rate is likely absurdly high. Your example doesn't speak at all towards crime and poverty because poverty is ALWAYS RELATIVE to how the people immediately around you are living. The USA has very rich and very poor - the gap in between is what causes the problems. Also, I've seen what introducing wealth into a 3rd world population does - more often than not it causes crime and drug use.
errr... not quite, true, progress is slow, but i come from here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3a/Caldeira_das_Sete_Cidades_-_ilha_de_S._Miguel.jpg not here..... http://www.meridianmagazine.com/people/images/africa/latrines.jpg
She represents social conservative's. McCain represents fiscal and foreign policy conservatives, simple.
Check your US history, cmon. Slavery, segregation, endemic racism etc. Ever wondered why black kids at school get higher marks when exams are marked blind, compared to when their race is known? Ever seen a black person try to get housing or a job, and encounter overt discrimination? If you look at black people in the UK, there is not as much crime or povery or educational problems as with black people in the USA. Black girls now outperform white boys on exams at school, for example, despite on average coming from poorer backgrounds. The difference between the two countries strongly suggests it is something in the way mainstream US society treats black people that is causing the difference. If it was inherent to black people, then the UK would have pretty much the same story as the USA. With so many clear, demonstrable, statistically supported reasons for underperformance, why leap on alleged intrinsic racial traits as your explanation?
