yeah but if you trade LSE in an IB account you still have to pay the tax... it's not that simple...

it's true man... we don't get gray boxes like the a lot of the other branches do.,. I keep in touch pretty closely with Pete3212 and can't believe the # of grayboxes they used to get in Cambridge/Missassauga... I'd be talking to him AH and he'd tell me that he couldn't trade all day cause of they GB's he had and we wouldn't even have a hiccup here...

I don't know whether HO gave us a super upgraded connection back in the day or whether it was the BM's who cheaped out and went with the cheap fibre from THT that caused a serious rash of problems for you guys...

    cheers!

Everybody trading on the LSE has to pay except market makers.

maybe you guys in Hamilton do have the best connection (that doesn't make swift any better, just that Hamilton branch) but even with out the grey boxes (im sure you've have more than a handful because i recall many times that the grey boxes were called "system wide" by head office, unless you guys are on a whole different system, but you would think they would put more than one branch on that.) Even without the grey boxes and when swifts system was working perfect i feel my quotes now are at least as quick as swifts and ive made the cash to back up what i say.

agreed. I've seen quotes of ppro and another unnamed platform side by side, they were very very similar. There wasn't always a noticeable difference. You're talking about milli-seconds not minutes... ;)

I don't think anyone ever said the quotes were slow under normal conditions or when things are working. Side by side they are the same as any other platform, its hard to screw that up even with subpar techies like speedyj overthere. The problems begin when there is volume and sticky quotes would show up etc... other platforms have way better algos to fix that. Same with execution servers going down, I am sure hamilton had those too, even though it wasn't a gbol, it was a gbol type symptom, you sat there like an idiot waiting till 3:40 (from 9:56) to hear that SwiftInc is up on the day so they will take traders positions on the company, god forbid the company was down position then you would wait till 4:05 to get your position, and eat the loss aftermarket. It happened more than once.

The issues are quotes not working under load, and executions servers down, either by gbols(some caused by BM being cheap on their lines/or unable to get better line) or just by bad design of the software, as it is written in excel and LOGO. If they only programed it in c++...

i suppose i wasn't clear, i trade at home and although my broadband is hooked up to a server with 4 computers on it, my trading one is the only one actively using the internet during trading hours.
If you are trying to say that my connection would be a lot slower if i had an office full of people trading off of it, well of course it would be, but my whole point was that you don't have to work at swift to have good quotes, you can go work at home and be just fine.
