Who do you want to win the war?

  1. I don't believe I'm the one who said this, but I did say that times and circumstances change, especially with modernity (technology, new ideas, ability to implement and monitor new treaties and rules of conduct that benefit everyone, etc).

  4. This is agreeable and I am sorry if I have been difficult. It is merely my notion that history is written by the conquerors and not the conquered that gives me trouble. Right and wrong I believe exist. Both are however, very difficult to pin down. It is often very difficult for me to decide what is right and wrong for my own course of action. As a result I am hesitant to tell another person that they are wrong in any objective way. It is exponentially more difficult for me to conceive the degree of certitude one must have to act on these beliefs in a manner which seems inately contradictory. In the case of the Iraqi war, we are killing an evil man who is evil because he kills. I realize that there is more to the issue than this, and that the US is killing in a more amiable fashion than does Saddam. But, there are many evil people and leaders in the world. China has, to many, some very disagreeable policies. And yet, no war of Chinese liberation is being fought. Anyway, I too must be getting to bed and so I bid you a fair ado!:)

  8. I know you understand this, but so as to allay any future confusion I wanted to call attention to the difference between math AS understanding and math as a TOOL for the attainment of understanding.
