56% of their energy is coal, they mine 4 billion tonnes of it annually, imports from Australia are at about 7% in a good year. They plan to go up in Carbon emissions with a maximum in 2026, so no Paris Accord for them. They speak vaguely about reducing the carbon by 2060 - when all the current leaders are dead by then.
Right now their power struggle is manifested in the phony energy crisis. The next Plenum is in November. Economic crises forced Russia to annex Crimea, China may use Taiwan to cheer their cattle up.

There were other reasons for the USSR to withdraw. Too many problems from there were coming back. They never had drug problem before for one... many others... Besides, 2 million Afghans dead in that campaign. Fairy tales about whipping for kindergarten folks, better known as propaganda, cuts both ways.
As for freedom-loving rednecks in 1776, The Empire was busy making money with sugar trade, good timing...

While the US was able to give the Soviets a bloody nose by pouring billions into the mujaheddin, it’s undeniable the US created a Frankenstein that ended up turning on its creator

Obviously, those countries which supply electric motors to other countries. This is China for example. Of course, when we talk about supply and demand, we have to note that China is a great player on this field and it suplies plenty of countries with various technologies. Hence it benefits most. Nevertheless, China is poluted a lot because of huge amount of factories which aren't transferred to green energy. So, every country works for its benefits and it's obvious. Although, there is a great crisis with technologies nowadays because of lack of semiconductors, however China still keeps its position in the world market of goods exchange.
