DP, I want YOU to tell me in YOUR own words. I don't want to read the copy and paste crap. I need YOU to articulate to me what the problem is in your opinion. I can't have a conversation with that article writer, he/she is not here. YOU are here. I'm trying to talk to YOU. I want YOU to tell me what YOU think the problem is. I responded to you by telling you MY experience. I didn't copy and paste something from the National Review. Please give me the same courtesy.
I've learned a great deal from DB's posts. Apparently white privilege consists of using basic common sense, acting responsibly and not acting out on every impulse. I am deeply ashamed. Perhaps I should go loot some stores to make things right.
You say that white privilege is a "made-up construct" and that it "isn't". My experiences are not unlike those that are expressed here and have already been dismissed. If you want to believe that there is no such thing as white privilege, that is your choice.
A common theme in DB's endless pastes is that whites have an irrational fear of blacks and thus tend to use force unnecessarily. Blacks express their upset at this by what... rioting and looting. Even the latest poster child vicitm, "unarmed black teen" , had committed a brazen strong arm robbery minutes before getting himself into a fight with the police. Yet to DB and fellow libs, the obvious problem is white people's irrational fear of black violence. Those are not Amish kids running wild in chicago, or downtown Philly or Minneapolis, or Detroit, or Newark. If one white flies a Confederate flag, it means the entire white race longs for the resumption of slavery. A decades long epidemic of black on white crime is shrugged off as irrational white fear. You can't make this stuff up.
Can you please cite ONE example. Don't say your experiences are like the ones copied and pasted. That's just pure lazy. I need you to string along a complete sentence. If it's factual that would be a nice bonus but not required.
I've provided a number of examples, and the responses have been not unlike AAA's above. "That's not the way things are 'these days'". "Racial discrimination is a thing of the past", as they then characterize negroes as lazy, shiftless, good-for-nothing thugs/sluts/etc (the cognitive dissonance here escapes them). So why provide the examples again? I asked a friend of mine, Charles, an older gentleman, last week, what he thought about all the racial stuff coming down recently, if the whites were right, if it was all the negroes' fault, if racial discrimination was all in the past, and he looked at me as if I'd lost my mind, and we both laughed. "It's in the eyes", he said. "No matter how nice they are to you, you can see it in the eyes". We talked a lot more about the subject, but there's no point in going into it here. There's plenty of stuff in what I've already said for the P&R crowd to make fun of. Not that that bothers me. There are people who are bigots and there are people who aren't. I aren't. Sticks and stones and so forth.
Oh dear God. Man, it's like talking to a brick wall. Look, DP, you may find this hard to believe, but I'm actually making an attempt here to have an intelligent dialogue with you. No smart ass remarks, no snarky comebacks. I just want you give me a real example. Not "I talked to some guy (who was black) and asked him if he thought racism is a problem and he giggled". Come on man, I need something real. Cops kill people every day. In fact, one of the big epidemics lately has been the number of family pets killed by cops. Yes, family pets. Cops across the board in every state have been shooting first and asking questions later. They are taking out heavy artillery and unloading on 5 lb Yorkies. I shit you not. Now, are cops anti-dog? Probably not. Is this a problem? I think so. If a cop shot my dog and I would shoot back and let a jury decide who was right. I have no idea why this has been such a problem lately but it has. You want know another problem? The number of cases were cops are taking advantage of women. Yes, these cases are increasing in frequency across the board. Do they also hate women? I don't know, maybe. But the problem appears not be about this particular issues but perhaps the lower level of quality of policeman today. They are not as fit as they use to be, not as fast, not as smart and forget about handling a crime scene properly. I don't think this has to do with cops hating black people but more to do with cops being incompetent. Now, the Ferguson case aside, show me the overall discrimination blacks face in this country compared to other groups of people. For example, we have statistical evidence that fat people have a much harder time finding employment vs thin folks. We know that older people are discriminated vs young people in getting certain jobs. We know that women are often paid substantially less for the same type of job that males do if they even get the job that they are equally qualified for. Then there is short people, jewish people, people with tattoos, former felons, ugly people, people with bad credit, and the list goes on and on and on. Here is where the difference is, most of the things I cited above, guess what, those people actually WERE qualified for those jobs and didn't get them for some superficial reason. Most blacks on the other hand are NOT qualified for jobs in which they get turned down. It MIGHT have to do with the fact that a substantial large number of them graduate high school without the ability to read or write. It MIGHT be the fact they have little to no skills. It MIGHT be the fact they have no college education. That is NOT discrimination. The other things I listed above ARE discrimination and illegal under the law.
Consistency is not a strong suit for liberals. Remember, one of their big issues is sexual harrassment and violence against women. Their favorite president? Bill Clinton. They are convinced that the police are dangerous and biased against blacks and other minorities. Yet they want to restrict guns to these same police.
No, you're looking for a means of rationalizing what you already believe. There's nothing I could say that would prompt some sort of epiphany on your part. Believe what you like. Makes no difference to me.
