It depends how strong is the preconceived idea that the newbie already has. If a book or video presents ideas or strategies that do not match what the newbie's then it may not work. If a newbie were to read The Reminiscences of a Stock Operator for the first time, I sure that he or she would not understand what the author was talking about.
Gareth Soloway is a guy, live twice a day, America. My wife listens to him daily on pre mkt open and close. I call him "Pony Tail" to her because a few months back he had a gawky hairstyle with a ponytail. I think he's pretty good technically, he does daytrading and swing.
Why do you think he's continually putting videos on Youtube and promoting himself? (I'm not saying you're wrong: I know a long-term profitable trader who has some videos on Youtube, but one's entitled to ask this so-obvious question, I think? And for sure, very few people who can trade successfully would be putting videos on Youtube, in that way.)
For an income stream to pay his daily bills. He's made over 14m from trading the last 9 years but he doesn't touch that,it's in a tax-deferred retirement account. That money is he and his family's retirement nest egg. The guy's shrewd and smart enough to create a separate income stream so he doesn't have to draw from his trading account.
