I've never traded VIX futures and actually never held any futures contracts at all for more than a day. So I was just wondering if there are any successful VIX swing traders out there who could offer insight on which contract(s) it's best to play for a possible 6-month hold. Obviously there'd be at least one roll in there, so do I start with the front contract and roll them or pick something farther out right from the start? Any other tips such as how to best time the entries/rolls would be much appreciated as well. Thanks!
Here's a good article to read about the VIX, its a year old but is still relevant. http://seekingalpha.com/article/196581-hedging-equities-with-vix-futures Key point --> "Short term VIX futures lose value much more rapidly than long-term VIX futures" And here's an interesting opinion about the current volatility. http://optionshouse.com/blog/how-low-is-cheap-volatility-824/
