My Linksys router finally gave out after many years.
Any recs for routers?
they all the same, for most people. quality wise, linksys is very solid. i have a unit from 2003 still moving along just fine
netgear is decent as well
Most of these low-end consumer routers are only built to last 18 months or so.
Linksys and Netgear appear to be at the top of the heap in terms of how long they last.
You could always buy a cheapo used computer for like $50 or less and install a real firewall on it like monowall (m0n0.ch/wall). It's rock solid with a very simple, elegant web gui.
D-Link's are supposed to put out the strongest signals. They cost about 2 or 3 x what a Linksys does.
Only problem with Linksys is you have to update the firmware from time to time and they don't tell you that a new release is available.
