I guess it depends on how bad you need the cash. I'd rather wait a week then lose a lot over a weekend because I couldn't get out of my position. ETFs have their advantages. No commish, 1 day settlement, supposed pro management. But for someone who knows where the price is going in advance it shouldn't matter.
I never "get out" of any position...if I'm long it's because I want the stock....but If I need money I prefer it be accessible...not going to wait for the most opportune time.
That list of ETFs shows that America is finally trying to get out of the stone-age when it comes to crypto ETFs. Unfortunately they are still pretty terrible and if America's failed advancement to the world's metric system is any example... they'll never get there. As I understand, you still can't get effective options on those ETFs. On top of this, those securities are still prohibited from collecting air-drops. And even more troubling, they are also prohibited from collecting staking yields. And then there are the other risks... these ETFs have not been tested and are very new. Meanwhile, the ones on the TSX have been around for years now, and have kept their liquidity through EVERY downturn event. From the collapse of Luna to FTX and all the other fund implosions. They still remained liquid and not a single one had any underlaying assets lost/frozen/compromised.
Yeah but ProShares and some of the others are already established fumds..Bitcoin ETFs are just a side hustle right now ...hardly think it could take them down like FTX. What Canadian spot ETFs? I only know of BTCC.b
Didn't you get out of long positions in MARA and GME? Wasn't it because they were dropping or as you put it a train wreck?
I ended up long doing the wheel ..they were small investments for weekly premium. I would have held GME but didn't like what I was seeing from the CEO. Basically I don't use stop losses...I only trade what I would hold...ie I don't trade AMC.
Yet you claimed you were out of capital and then downsized cause you needed beer money. So with GME, wouldn't you call that sale a stop loss?
Well I was up GME huge so didn't mind being stuck through earnings...a meta physical stop loss? Basically I don't sell because price drops...I sell when the opportunity disappears.
I guess it's all in how you look at it. So if you are underwater in a position and the opportunity disappears you'll take a loss?
If it's a large position then it's a ETF so I'll wait it out...if it's a stock the position size will be capped, and I'll take a loss and re invest in the same sector..but I'm all dividend stocks now so would probably never sell unless they dropped the dividend.
