Where's the best place to buy a new computer

  1. Some reinstall packages are a series of disks with all the stuff on them and you don't have a choice but to install all disks.

In Dell's case, the OS disk is separate... as are the other software Dell installs. You don't have to install the "other".. just do the OS, download current drivers off of Dell's support site, and you're all set.

  2. I like Dell. My system cost me ~1200 USD with a huge screen, lots of memory and storage. It runs nice. [it was brand spanking new but I can write off the whole thing...] I reinstalled from scratch and turned off all the crap after I bought the computer. It is virgin now.

  3. Im 100% MAC. Laptop, Desktop for my company, IMAC for my production studio and the IPAD for fun.

I was against using MAC for business but since I switched from PC to MAC in that arena, I couldn't be more happy.

There are reasons why MAC is not cheap in price.

And MAC s are great for Trading.....as well.

  5. it surprises me so many purchase their pc from Dell, and then other brands, but
I suppose it's got to do with the idea Dell etc are computer manufacturers and
    know what they're doing

I've bought my computers based on price comparison primarily, who's selling the
cheapest, what am I getting for my money, and Dell has always been more ex-
    pensive compared to local suppliers

here's the guys I buy from: http://genericcomputer.com/ Canadian $ prices but it
may give you an idea when comparing boxes, one year parts two years in-store
service warranty and I've received help via the phone when I had a problem

there's between 2 and 3 hundred Computer Dealers listed in the Yellow Pages
for dealers in the Lower Mainland - Vancouver plus the adjacent suburbs so it's
easy to find a dealer in the neighbourhood. specialist builds are usually available
but probably require additional build time for parts to be ordered in

  6. I have two Dells. One is over 10 years old and I still use it every day.
The other one is a T3400 that I've had for about two years. I've never
    had any problems with them.

My one complaint is I think they are very noisy. Loud humming and
constant clicking noises. This wasn't a big issue when I traded
with the tv on or while listening to music, but now I prefer to trade in
a quiet environment. I find I'm more relaxed and focused when I'm
just listening to my brain and not a lot of other stuff.

There are companies out there that specialize in quiet computers,
but the ones I found seemed kind of expensive. So I'm thinking
I might get my next computer from ibuypower.com. They have
water cooled motherboards and for an extra 89$ you can add
a sound reduction system. Also they look real cool...I know...that's
    very important.

In the mean time I'm sittin here with silicone ear plugs jammed
    in my ears.

I'm glad I read this. I HATE loud, noisy computers. What's up with computers being so noisy? If I remember correctly, computers I had many years ago were quiet. Seems they just keep getting noisier.

I will definitely check out the ones you're talking about. Thanks, catchawave!

  8. Power. People want more horsepower but what comes with that is heat... then fans running to cool components. Biggest culprit is usually video card fans.
