Yes, i am very interested in following the progress. I know other firms that have attempted your path and saw some success have been snapped up by large operators who saw the value- and never seen again. Are you familiar with " the predictors" which i believe was an early attempt at the same goal. It is interesting reading. Peace, sur
I have always believed that the financial markets will go flat soon due to this very reason. However, regulations will likely prevent that from happening-- just like with HFT. There's too much at stake to allow it to actually happen. Either regulated out of existence or purchased with sovereign capital/perks at a level no one could refuse.
I am a firm believer that humans will always be able to figure out ways to overcome "intelligent" machines. If the machines start to dominate the markets, there will always be ways of profiting.
In 1965, the Nobel Laureate and AI pioneer, Herbert A. Simon wrote: "machines will be capable, within twenty years, of doing any work a man can do." He was an advocate of "strong" AI (now called AGI). Has been about 50 years and counting .... Regards, Monoid.
When you mean 'same goal' do you mean it is an early attempt at AI? If so, you are mistaken. "The predictors" were the first to apply ideas from their work in chaos theory (and genetic algorithms, although not the first here) to financial markets. In fact, the team of physicists (that made up "predictors") were doing some pioneering work in chaos theory at UC Santa Cruz. Read earlier works of Prof. Doyne Farmer (formerly of Santa Fe Institute, and now with the Oxford Martin School), a key member of "the predictor" team, and you will get a taste for what they were trying to achieve. BTW, I haven't read the book "The predictors"; so cannot comment of its contents. All the best. Regards, Monoid.
Short term moves will remain the same, mist that profit, profit from that so i expect no changes for me to worry about. A program AI or not can no better predict future direction than a human. And AI is a pipe dream which will likely never happen, simulated AI yes but its just a simulation, it will apear to be intelligent, but it will have boundaries and limits. Markets goe up, sideways or down, nothing will change this.
Anyone who has been in the markets since the 70s will have seen many amazing sounding methods come and go down the drain. One day we may have to acknowledge some whizzo system but the time is not yet, nor in the foreseeable future. So relax, have another joint/Bud or whatever.
Old news - haven't you seen Colossus: the Forbin Project or A Space Odyssey. Next the computers will demand the people buy all the stocks in the world and keep no cash or they will deliberately crash the markets! (Wait a minute ...... is that what Europe is up to? - https://www.intellihub.com/european-union-set-to-ban-cash-transactions-over-500-euros/ OMG - it has begun!) Look for the sequel movie where Colossus takes on the HFT computers in the ultimate world control showdown! Will the computers look at washington politics, determine there is no intelligent life there and destroy it? Stay tuned! LOL When you take them into court, they will pretend to be dumb machines so it will be hard to prosecute them. Their lawyers will claim AI is an impossible dream and they will walk on all charges. Seriously though, computers are state machines (non-continuous functions) and so with any state machine vibrational harmonics can occur. If the harmonics are also resonant with positive feedback - look out below.
