Both candidates were pro police brutality in general election so there wasn't a choice.

So 100% of the people in the general election voted for candidates who support the police. Got it.

So let me ask -- did Durham have fewer police officers in 2020 than 2019? Did Durham have fewer officers in 2021 than 2020? Did the City of Durham pay less in non-overtime compensation to the police in 2021 than in 2020? How about 2020 compared to 2019? Sounds like defunding to me. Especially since the Durham City Council refused to raise the starting salary (already the lowest in the region), refused to raise any police salaries, removed some police officer benefits, cut unfilled positions and refused to pay police hiring bonuses from 2018 to 2021. All the while the progressive Council members were bragging that this is how they defund the police. Of course they chased away a very competent police chief CJ Davis -- she went to Memphis -- by refusing to allow her to perform effective policing in Durham by not effectively funding and supporting the police department. Something she made clear multiple times.

Now the progressive Council Members have paid for their lack of support for the police in the recent election. Hopefully voting out the progressive DA in 2022 is next.

Only in one year - 2020. Funding was removed from the department in 2021.

The progressive Durham City Council members were quite proud of their defunding efforts. They constantly bragged about how they defunded the police in Durham and reduced the number of police on the streets.

I have already provided an endless set of articles with direct quotes from progressive Durham City Council members about defunding the police. These people ran their entire freaking campaigns on the subject.

Let's provide you with some reminders:

Johnson was among those who voted to deny that funding. Johnson said, "I think in an ideal world you wouldn’t need [a police force.]"

“I wholeheartedly believe in defunding the police,” Caballero said during the meeting. “I know what I want in the future of Durham, and I want less police,” Caballero later added, “and I want a radical response to how we respond to community safety.”
